Re: Social Anxiety...

Good Evening I am 66 and have had full top and bottom metal braces since July. I also teach in an elementary school. The kids have really been fantastic. I don't know what they say behind my back, but to my face they are both curious and very supportive. I have had some color suggestions from severa...

Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?

I got braces in July of 2018 for the first time at the ripe old age of 66. I have always wanted to get them to fix my smile and some other issues, but until now I couldn't afford them. Now I can afford them and I am glad I took the plunge.

Re: Deep Bite and Over Bite Friends what is your treatment like + advice??

Good Evening I am 3 weeks into a full set of metal braces. It will be 8 weeks until I return to the ortho for my fist adjustment. At the initial placement the ortho put on just the braces (top and bottom). I am anticipating a full array of elastics (rubber bands) as I move forward. I feel this way b...

Re: Considering braces

Good Afternoon I put off getting braces for many years. I am now in my 60's and 3 weeks into a full set of metal braces. I have some similar issues plus a few extras. While having braces at my age is a bit inconvenient, I am looking forward to the end result. My ortho said 12 to 18 months in braces ...

Re: Metal Braces & Extractions in One Week

Sorry, I forgot to answer your questions about cleaning your teeth and wax. I would buy an electric toothbrush and a waterpik. The electric brush that I have has an ortho brush head that is great for the brackets and gums. The waterpik can save you a lot of time with flossing. Although when using th...

Re: Metal Braces & Extractions in One Week

Good Afternoon (at least where I am) I had to have a broken tooth #3 extracted before my braces. I had the tooth extracted and a bone graft placed in the socket to support the bone. It took several stitches to close the site. I week later I was back in the dentist office for some work on the other s...

Re: My Journey started yesterday.

My orthodonist didn't think a night guard was needed. He said he could see where my tongue has suffered some trauma, but he said that when tooth #4 was pulled out from its crossbite position, that should solve the issue. I haven't bit my tongue since I got braces, but I know my tongue is still in th...

Re: My Journey started yesterday.

Yes, initially I was to get braces on the top and 4 weeks later on the bottom. However, neither myself nor my regular dentist was impressed with my initial consult. Therefore my dentist referred me to an orthodonist that he has referred some other of his patients to with excellent results. I was ver...

Re: My Journey has officially started

On Wednesday I finally got my braces applied after 6 visits to my regular dentist to get some much needed work done. I have full metal braces placed on both the top and bottom. Except for some tightness of the bottom 6 and touching of the brackets on my bottom lip, I have had no ill affects. I have ...

Re: Closing extraction gaps

That much I understand. The part I wanted to know about is how he plans to mesialize tooth #2. I have researched the word mesialize and what I found doesn't look like fun. I haven't seen the actual treatment plan yet nor have I signed any papers for the treatment. All he has really told me is that I...

Re: Closing extraction gaps

My situation is as follows: Through my own neglect I have to have the roots of Tooth #3 extracted (tooth broke several times and is down to the gum line). My orthodontist is recommending a bone graft at the socket site to optimize bone health. He then wants to correct max right posterior crossbite a...

Re: This has been a long time coming...

Good Afternoon I am scheduled to get my top teeth braced the second week of July. My regular dentist has to do an extraction of a broken tooth before I can start with the braces. I have read many posts and blogs on this website and have found it extremely informative. I have read and I think I am pr...

Re: 65 and Getting Braced

All my orthodontist said was that I would have braces for 2 years. I know that is only a tentative date. I did not sign any papers as my regular dentist has some work to do first. My orthodontist is in the process of talking to my regular dentist so that we can formulate a plan. The date for my uppe...
