12m post-op relapse ?

Hey Wondering if anyone experienced relapse 12m post BSSO? I hadn't noticed but recent check-up told I have by a couple of mm. Slightly worried, although apparently this is within the normal range, and unlikely to destabilise further after a year? Keen to hear if anyone has had anything similar and/...

Re: Afraid of Lip Numbness

Sorry to hear that - have you experienced any tingling sensations or is it completely numb in the area?

My surgeon told me it takes up to a year for feeling to return everywhere (if it is going to) after double jaw surgery if that reassures you at all.

Preparing for de-bracing...

Can't really believe I'm writing that I'm all confirmed to have my braces removed in a month! My teeth have closed down well since surgery and everything looks great. It feels like I have been wearing the braces forever but I know in the grand scheme of my life and of others experiences it hasn't be...

Re: fears after reading horror stories - upcoming surgery

Hi Sleepmed I think pre-op fears are totally normal and understandable! It also took me nearly a decade but I had double jaw surgery earlier this year, tried not to read too many horror stories and focus on the vast improvements the surgery would make to my bite and jaw. I've been very fortunate wit...

Re: How long before you saw your ortho after surgery?

Hi Chuck I'm a few months ahead of you, and not sure what procedure you had. My experience was seeing my ortho 2 weeks post-op, they gave me bands on both sides and I had a central one my surgeon advised. It looked a bit like a cat's cradle in my mouth! Then I had another review 2 weeks after that w...

Re: Poll: If you had BSSO, time until CHIN felt NORMAL

Hi Punkamouth I am a few months further along than you, I have some sensation back but definitely not all and these days it has slowed down to degrees. But some days it doesn't even register that I don't have feeling if that makes sense? I still have a tingly sensation in some areas but only if I to...

Elastics working one side and not the other?

I have box elastics to close my bite on my back teeth, I've had them about 6 weeks now. And the gap on the left has closed beautifully but not on the right, is this normal and will it catch up? I suppose it's possible the right-gap was larger to start with? I'm also concerned because from the outsid...

Re: Tongue placement post-op?

Thanks Emily, I guess I'm trying to retrain a large muscle that has had years of sitting in a certain way and it takes time. I feel like I produce more saliva with my tongue in the roof of my mouth, but again maybe I'm just more aware of it. My surgeon warned me tongue thrust can cause regression an...

Re: Molar Bands

I had molar bands put on after I'd had my braces about a month; it was painful for a few days following but I barely notice them now. It doesn't sound right that they were cutting your tongue or causing swallowing discomfort, can you speak to your ortho and get them checked before your next adjustme...

Re: Journey to fix my face

I also waited and have mixed feelings. It would have been easier in my 20s as I only had myself to worry about, but I was definitely better informed and psychologically ready now, which made a big difference.

How are you feeling N2Deep?

Re: Tongue placement post-op?

Thanks snapdresser That's what my ortho told me too, ideally the roof of the mouth just behind the teeth (in the palate?) or next best at the bottom of the mouth also behind the teeth. And that's where it is now 90% of the time but I have to really concentrate! Do you remember how long it was before...

Tongue placement post-op?

Something I wasn't expecting post-op; now my bite is fixed, it initally felt like my tongue was too big for my mouth. Obviously the difference is it has less space than before. I discussed with my ortho and am now trying to retrain my tongue so it doesn't thrust and push against my newly aligned tee...

Re: Starting to lisp 1 yr after surgery

I am behind you on my recovery journey but I have also noticed a lisp occasionally. It seems to be when I talk too fast/read aloud.

Are you worried about the lisp or the lack of feeling?
