Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Just checking in. How's everyone doing? I'm still wearing midline elastics trying to fix some slanting in my front teeth and the progress is slooooooow if not non-existent. Probably won't be getting de-banded before the end of the year as I was hoping, but I'd rather do it right since I've come this...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

It could just be the prolonged increase in intracranial blood pressure from running 7 miles that caused some of the still inflamed tissues to have that reaction, and it somehow transferred into a skin rash by association. I can definitely still feel the blood supply in my face getting a bit more str...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

I've found a happy medium of using the toothbrush attachment on my waterpik for now. Then following up with the manual brush with paste. I'll find out next week if I have to keep wearing these bloody elastics!

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Congrats Mojo! I'm still at least 4 months away from that probably. I had a bit more movement that needed to happen after surgery, but things are coming together! I have all of my feeling back, but I do get a random buzzing feeling in my lower jaw when I'm eating crunchy stuff. I bet it feels amazin...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

For those of you that had lefort 1, can you feel your upper gums yet? I can feel from the incision point about halfway down, but just above the teeth I'm still completely numb. It definitely makes chewing an interesting sensation. I also kind of feel like none of my teeth are really in there solid a...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

I was just appreciating today the emotional rollecoaster this whole experience takes us on. I don't think there is any way to mentally prepare for the way this surgery affects your state of mind and perception of yourself. So I'd like to give you all (and myself) a pat on the back for keeping your s...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

I had a gum graft done once to fix a sagging gum line around a tooth. They took the healthy gum from the roof of my mouth and I had to wear a roof guard for two weeks. I would def not want to do that right now. Maybe in another month or two, but yeah, not terribly fun.

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

I also experienced the furry tongue. But I started using a tongue scraper as soon as I could fit it back there, and also drink a 6 oz glass of water with 2 tspn of Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar two to three times a day on an empty stomach. Usually right before bed and as soon as I wake up. It took a fe...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

So far at just over six weeks I can chew fries, sausage, soft cookies, pasta, and I don't need to blend my soups anymore. It still takes me a while to eat anything because my bite is not ideal at the moment, and I can't chew as well as I could before even. If it were ideal I think I would be close t...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

No IMF screws for me. Just good old fashioned titanium plates and screws that will be with me the rest of my life unless they bother me for some reason.

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Monday will be six weeks for me. The surgeon just cleared me to exercise again and eat whatever I feel comfortable with, just no crunchy or tough foods. So last night I tried some fries and a bite of a quesadilla - success! I did cheat the other day and had a bowl of Mac and cheese with a veggie bur...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Yeah it's amazing the things we notice about ourselves that no one else even cares about. My coworkers said they notice my lower jaw is different if they really look, but almost no one notices my upper jaw which moved the most! My biggest realization after two weeks at work is the slow and increment...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Mojo lol @ 2 miles being light exercise  That's like a full workout for me. I had mild asthma before surgery but since then I've felt much less asthmatic. It could also have something to do with my new regimen of 2 tspn of apple cider vinegar in water twice a day. A healthy yeast balance can cl...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Punakmouth I can't even imagine recovering with kids (let alone 4 of them!). I could barely take care of myself for the first week and a half, so kudos to you! I'm at 5 weeks now, had my splint off since week 3, but I will likely be in elastics for a good while since my molars aren't touching. I jus...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

I think my first meal is probably going to happen by accident when I discover I can eat semi normal again. But if I were to have an intention for a first meal, it would probably be the red snapper at a local seafood joint. It's probably the best fish I've ever had. But first my ortho needs to get mo...
