Re: fears after reading horror stories - upcoming surgery
I think the horror stories are over represented online. I also had an advancement with both the upper and lower (lefort 1, 3 piece and BSSO) and I look the same as before minus the uneven gummy smile. I was happy with my looks prior to surgery as well, but my surgeon says it looks like I got a mini ...

Re: Poll: If you had BSSO, time until CHIN felt NORMAL
Thank you alwaysabc! Hoping you continue to gain sensation as well. 😀 The tingling is good! For others who may read this, it seems like the tingling lasts varying amounts, but the itching tends to occur right before sensation returns.... Could just be me, but there seems to be a sequence on my face ...

Re: Dr Schoeman Kaiser Anaheim
I'd say he's pretty amazing now that I am 6 weeks out! He does over 100 surgeries a year and loves doing them. He's seen it all. Very relaxed, doesn't glad-hand you a lot, but does an AMAZING job. My teeth are exactly where they are supposed to be and my bite is perfect. At 6 weeks, I almost have al...

Re: Poll: If you had BSSO, time until CHIN felt NORMAL
Today was my 6 week check up. I have altered sensation (numb plus pins & needles) everywhere in my lower lip and chin area. I can feel it if you touch me there, but it feels strange. There isn't a minute that goes by that my lip and chin aren't freaking out, regenerating the nerves. My doctor sa...

MoJo - I used Arnica gel to get rid of the swelling/bruising starting on day 3. I had bruising all the way down to my cleavage and it was gone by day 10 or so. I had zero swelling where I put it....but I only put it on my lower jaw, neck, and chest area. I was worried it would cause the skin on my f...

Re: Arch Bar Removal - Hurt???
Ok.... It didn't hurt at all!!! He removed the splint and the two sections of arch bars with no anesthesia and I didn't feel a thing!! He does 100 surgeries a year, so maybe he's really good at it...?! Also, maybe I couldn't feel it because I was still numb in those areas? Who knows? I'm just glad t...

Re: Weird chin and lip pain?
Can't sleep because I'm so excited to get my splint out tomorrow! Oh yah....and two small arch bars on the top. I can't wait to look semi-normal again and not have to explain why I have this thing in my mouth! I'm hoping my smile will look a little better afterwards too! Who would have thought I wou...

Snapdresser - I have my splint on until tomorrow (day 31) so it is hard to say how wide I can open my mouth. Right now it seems like it would be about 1 1/2 fingers? I can't smile all the way yet either. I can still feel the stitches pulling, especially in the upper lip, right under my nose. I can a...

Re: 1 month post op swelling
I'm taking bromelain powder and liquid tumeric. I haven't taken them both for the last 4 days and don't see any difference. I will start again tomorrow to see if they have a noticeable effect.

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...
MoJo - Long before this surgery journey started, I got some gum work done. Basically, he used a laser to take away some gum from the front teeth and make the arches of the gum tissue over the teeth look better. Totally painless for me and easy-peasy. My daughter got braces about a year ago (we are b...

Re: Poll: If you had BSSO, time until CHIN felt NORMAL
Thanks Raj! I've seen that it can take up to a year.
Many people that say "up to one year" never gain full feeling back.... They are hoping....I'm wondering if the majority of people who gain full sensation back gain it back within 3 months...or 5 months...etc.

Re: 1 month post op swelling
I too am 1 month post op. (4 weeks today). I still have an awkward smile and swelling in my lower cheeks. Others don't really notice but I do. I think I notice the swelling more because of the way it feels when I try to express myself with my face or smile. It feels so tight and uncomfortable! I thi...
