Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Hey guys - long time! Hope everyone is doing great :) N2Deep I only *just* went back to my electric toothbrush, it definitely feels bizarre but it's nice to finally feel like I'm actually cleaning my teeth! And that's incredible that you already have all of your feeling back! I had some complication...

Re: Recovery has been different

Hi there! Congrats on everything going well thus far! I had the same procedures as you (BSSO, Lefort 1, and genioplasty) and more or less have the same post-op set up, too (one double-band on each side of my mouth, no splint; could "eat" pureed food with a teeny-tiny spoon). Based on this,...

Re: Does any one have experience with The Crane as an alternative to surgery for recessed maxilla

I don't personally have experience with this device but I'll be the first to point out that the woman who developed it doesn't have a medical degree. Why do you think that this product is an effective alternative to surgery? There is no proof of research, testing and/or FDA approval - the device doe...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Mojo, your teeth look great!! PDF - I felt sutures in my lower jaw up until last week. My surgeon tried to remove the remaining stitches that hadn't dissolved when he was removing my IMF screws, and it hurt like a MF'er (even through Novacaine), so he just let them be. I think they finally dissolved...

Re: Nerves and regaining feeling

I'm also 7 weeks out and have had exactly the same experience. The left side of my face has been slightly more swollen than the right for much of my recovery, and the right side of my chin started to gain sensation before the left (probably important to note that I also had a sliding genioplasty). G...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Mojo - that’ll be here before you know it! I can’t imagine going through this whole process and ALSO having braces at the same time. I can only imagine how amazing you’ll feel seeing your “new” smile for the first time. Lol, I am also making all kinds of weird faces for stretching/mobility. My smil...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Thank you!! It's funny, I was just saying that to a friend today - that it feels equally like this all happened ages ago, while also feeling like it was yesterday. That's awesome that you're back into running! Definitely looking forward to that. I've been lifting but still need a little more time be...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

But you are completely right about the mental roller coaster. Within two hours I change my mind 6 times about how confident I feel, how well I'm healing, how well I'm handling the whole process. Cheers to all of you to making it through your journey so far. And also thanks for being there. Couldn't...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

PdF - great to hear that you're now arch bar-free! How are you feeling now? Any residual pain/swelling after the first day or two? Mojo - My mom had to get gum grafts and it definitely doesn't sound like something you'd want to do right after bi-max. That said, it sounds like what your doc is sugges...

Re: ++Anthem insurance Colorado, surgeons dont accept, any advice?++

Do you have documentation that proves that the surgery is medically necessary? If not (as snapdresser said), then it won't be covered regardless of whether or not you find a surgeon who accepts your insurance. Ask Anthem for the list of requirements that must be met in order to deem the surgery medi...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

So glad to hear that the flight went smoothly (for the most part)! Totally know the old lady feeling, the OSA gave me Reynaud's which made my hands swell up and turn purple whenever it was about to rain. SO glad I've lost that super-cool "skill" post-surgery ;-) Obviously clear it with you...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Bahaha, I side-eyed my electric toothbrush yesterday for exactly that reason. Put it on my tongue for a second, then wussed out and grabbed my cartoon-covered kids toothbrush. Sigh. I know it's not horrible and luckily it's not causing bad breath/taste, but I'll be happy when I can scrape all that c...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Funny - I was just thinking I should get some ACV because I keep buying the expensive Suja blends and figured I might as well make my own. Thanks for the tip!

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Phew! I hear you, I wouldn't want anything down my throat after all of that either, haha. So...this is kind of gross, and I'm not sure if it's the same as what you're experiencing. But I thought I had numbness on the roof of my mouth and tongue, especially towards the back of my throat. Basically fe...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...

Haha even though this is surgery #1 (and hopefully it stays that way), I definitely pushed it with the soft foods early on. Had my 2nd follow up with my doc on Tuesday and he told me I could start eating scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, etc... I was like, "Brah, already doing that, sorry."...
