One thing you need to consider is what the elastics are being used for. I can't say I really noticed the change with mine, because it was such a slow and progressive thing. Looking back now though I know they must've worked wonders because I no longer have an overbite. Hope what i'm trying to say ha...

Hi Heather, I can't really help you with the dental props thing (hopefully someone else can).. but I just wanted to say that having metal on your bottom teeth is no big deal. You barely see your bottom teeth and people never notice them at all. So if it's going to cause issues for you then I really ...

Re: May 2nd!

Hi Brooke. Congrats on the debanding date, that's fantastic news!!! :-)o Also, the ortho said that it takes a week for the retainer to come. That worries me, because thats a week without anything retaining my teeth :( Is this a typical wait time for a retainer? My date is set for the 15th of May and...

Yep, it was mine.... they did go away a few months after the braces were off, but mine weren't as large. Your ortho may shave a mm off the laterals near the top of the tooth so that the tops fit together better and leave less of a gap. I'm sure the black triangles will go away after the braces stop...

Someone posted before and after pics of their black triangles some months ago: showing the triangles (1) at their worst and (2) a few months after their braces were removed. The gums grew beautifully into the gaps and the black triangles completely disappeared. So I would suggest anyone who has the...

Re: Black triangles

Hi Kirst I've got black triangles between most of my teeth because of their shape, narrow at the root, wide at the ends. My ortho said he can help to lessen the gap by shaving the sides, which he has done twice now (I'm in my 14th month), but only to an extent. If he does it too much, my teeth will...

thanks for posting your pic. I've got quite a few black triangles on my lowers ... none look quite as big as yours yet ... but I'm only 8 1/2 months in, so I'm guessing they could get bigger. I'm looking forward to following what your ortho recommends. I hope he can fix them with some reshaping as ...

Black triangle with pic

Hi everyone, I'm due to get my braces off in 3 weeks. There's only one thing worrying me though and that's the gap (black triangle) between my bottom front 2 teeth. I go back to the ortho next week for a review appointment so will ask if it can be fixed then. In the meantime I thought I'd post a pic...

I like listerine as a mouthwash but it seems to make my mouth feel like its on fire after about 20 seconds. I gotta agree with you there. I haven't used the mouthwash (well not for a long time anyway), but thought i'd give the listerine toothpaste a try. I like it except for that whole burning feel...

My son told me a week or so ago that since I'd gotten braces, he was a lot funnier. After pondering that for a minute, I realized it was because I actually SMILE at him along with my laugh and he can see teeth! lol - that's one of the cutest things i've heard. Nice that he notices the difference th...

Re: Three extractions yesterday

Now that that's over I am dreading having my spacers put back in on Monday for the expander that will go in Friday. I know there's no turning back because I have three huge gaps now, but man, I am not looking forward to the next few months!!! Congrats on having the extractions. I'm sure ...

I was like this for over 20 years ... many ortho appointments ... and they're not free in New Zealand, Fiji or Australia. Kind of going off on a tangent here, but glad you mentioned this. After the comment about free consultations I thought I must've been going crazy thinking that I had paid for mi...

I've had silver ligs on my bottom metal braces. I really can't see them at all. It all just kind of blends in with the metal. Good Luck Shawnie I agree. Mine are silver/grey ligs at the moment on my bottom arch (metal brackets also) and you can't even tell they are there unless you look real closely!

I think one of the major hassles with elastics was never having them in the right room at the right time.. In my mind I wanted to configure brackets or archwires so we could hook a "spare" set of elastics somewhere in the mouth where it was't using force, so there would always be a set of...

JumpTheDitch - I'm actually not sure, but i'd say the teeth must move back slow enough for 1 week without retainers to not be such a big deal. Also, from what i've read on this website minor tweaking can be done with Hawleys. So if issues do arise then they'll be fixed pretty much straight away. Fro...
