Re: Surgical error/negligence?

Go talk to a lawyer. A tooth being cut sounds like poor planning but I have no idea if it constitutes malpractice.

Re: Recommendations?

Get at least three opinions.

If you're considering surgeons from New York City, don't use the same surgeon I did as I'm pursuing a revision now.

Re: I need outside opinions...

Get a second unbiased opinion from a different surgeon, on the side if necessary.

Why would you trust this surgeon for a third time? Not catching screws popping sounds negligent to me, shouldn't it be apparent in your post surgery x-rays?

Re: Surgeon Review - Dr. Behrman from NYP in New York

An update now that I've almost wrapped up consultations on a revision / read my records. This is written here in case it can help others. 1.) Why I needed an immediate revision? I feel not unlike an aircraft crash investigator piecing things together. Recall I had a L1 + BSSO done which required a r...

Yes this is something a combination of BSSO and genioplasty can address, it's hard to tell if you need your upper jaw moved too form your photos but if it's already aligned than you might not need to.

Re: Surgeon Review - Dr. Behrman from NYP in New York

Thanks for your replies. An update on my situation, I finished consulting and I'm convinced now to go through a full revision due to a variety of existing problems that can be fixed alongside my main issues (lip incompetence, bimax recession, gummy smile indicating some VME and a bad bite and the po...

Re: Unsure about surgery results... over-impaction/molars don't touch

I know you're stressed and panicking but that paragraph was very hard to read and all over the place. My general advice is to be very firm and stand up for yourself when discussing this with your ortho/surgeon. Voice your concerns very clearly with them and push until you get an honest answer. And n...

Re: Recovering from jaw surgery alone? Advice?

I doubt they let you leave alone after any procedure for liability reasons and always would require someone sign you out. But I'm surprised about the 72 hour rule as they have no way to verify/enforce that.

Re: Recovering from jaw surgery alone? Advice?

It's doable. Just make sure you have someone to get you to your hotel. You'll sleep a lot the first week anyway. Have the hotel just checkup/call periodically in case something goes wrong. Be very careful standing up, and do it very slowly hugging the wall as you might get very light headed if you s...

Re: Surgeon Review - Dr. Behrman from NYP in New York

Thanks yeah I'm just wrapping up my consultation spree of second opinions. I did actually consult with NYCOMS and liked them, thanks for the suggestion. Don't feel comfortable sharing their specific opinion here as I don't want to mention anyone publicly besides my original surgeon. But so far the o...

Re: Surgeon Review - Dr. Behrman from NYP in New York

The surgery was many years ago, there was nothing for the orthodontist to do as I still have vertical maxillary excess. I read the operative report and it sounds like in the second surgery they didn't cut any bone, just loosened screws and repositioned with no new cutting so I might just have 1 oper...

Re: Surgeon Review - Dr. Behrman from NYP in New York

I don't have a frontal x-ray, why would it help? I didn't have symmetry problems beforehand. In addition to aesthetics, I'd argue, more problematically, this is a poor functional result as well. I have 6mm lip incompetence and 4mm upper incisor show (this is more than pre-surgery and was not the pla...

Surgeon Review - Dr. Behrman from NYP in New York

I'll keep this strictly factual, draw your own conclusions. Brief story: I had a Lefort I and BSSO done to treat a 5mm open bite. They actually had to perform the same operation twice, spaced a week apart, since according to my surgeon I clenched too hard immediately after being woken from anesthesi...

Re: Upper jaw & Chin surgery going back to soccer

I wouldn't risk it. In my case I couldn't chew any hard foods for 10 weeks so I'm struggling to see how playing soccer would be safe.
