Re: Jaw surgery & hospital costs in Melbourne, Australia

Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know. How much are they moving your jaw? Mine was 6 mm. Thanks for the heads up for the treatment duration. Dr. David Austin did look at my teeth and said that my treatment should be less than 18 months, so fingers crossed, I hope it is true. ...

Re: Jaw surgery & hospital costs in Melbourne, Australia

Congrats on your surgery, hope you are recovering well. I am getting my braces in January 2018, hopefully surgery January 2019. Which hospital did you go for the surgery? How was it like after the surgery? Any numbness on the chin or lower lip? Well with PHI, us customers just cant win, right. I am ...

Re: Just told I need surgery not just braces.

I feel your pain, two years i walked into orthodontics's office and expected braces, but he told me double jaw surgery. It took me two years to get myself mentally ready for it. Watch and animation on youtube and read up the blogs of ppl who had the surgeries. Those things helped me building up the ...

Re: Did Insurance Help Pay for Your Surgery?

I am in Australia. Jaw surgery is for medical purpose, it can be done free of charge through Medicare (National Health System), however the wait list can be few years. I am going private, roughly its going to cost me $30,000 AUD for Surgery, Orthodontics, Anesthesia and hospital cost.

Re: How big is my mandibula/maxila?

I dont think your mandibula is huge. People would kill for your look. Double jaw surgery is a game of gamble, you may end up with a better look, but also may end up botched with many complications. You already have a pretty good looking, the improvement wont be much, i dont think its worth the gamble.

Re: IVRO

Apparently IVRO is not that common nowadays, most of surgeons would choose SRRO over IVRO. My understanding is that IVRO is safer comparing to SRRO, as the position of bone cutting is relatively far from nerves, hence less chance of nerve damage, however it requires 6-weeks wire post surgery, which ...

Re: Underbite - Is this the best treatment?

Yeah, I am in the same boat here. When the surgeon said my asymmetric lower jaw, I asked him whether its teeth or jaw. He then examined my lower jaw and confirmed it's definitely jaw. I am sorry to hear that the recovery has not been exactly a smooth sail for you, but you are almost at the end of tu...

Underbite - Is this the best treatment?

I am 32 year old male from Australia and have recently consulted with an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon about my underbite. The surgeon indicated two problems with my teeth/jaws: 1. underdevelopment of upper jaw - this is the fundamental cause of underbite, while my lower jaw is actually within appr...
