Hi! I had the same concerns but seeing as they retain the teeth the best I'll take the chance! I am super careful with mine and often get paranoid lol. I really adore the Essix. I always loosen the back before pulling it out and that seems to be the trick.

My ortho said no toothpaste but to use soap (and ew, I know....yes I can kinda taste it even when I rinse it vigorously). Anyway my ortho gave me samples of these tablets called Retainer Bright which dissolve in water like Efferdent denture cleaner. Maybe I will order those but before I did I though...

And these whitestrips are professional strength woo hoo!!

I just had to say that I am STILL giddy and thrilled over my new freedom since the barces are off. Biting directly into food is just heavenly...no mirror or bristle-tree needed!

I have this on the bottom and was told NOTHING to worry about. My ortho and staff are pretty good with warnings too.

I'm leary too, after all this lil wire is just so teeny and seems fragile but I just chomp away so enjoy!

So glad you posted pics of the Essex (I have a bottom fixed retainer and a top essex) As many may know I am a big baby and complained about everything from mouth sore to staing ligs and let me tell ya....I highly recommend the essix (and the bonded retainer for that matter) I was SHOCKED :shock: at ...

I read some scary stuff about them here but, wow, my ortho popped mine in and I spoke expecting a lisp...something.....I could speak perfectly!! It's so thin and completely snug to the teeth. I have to wear it after dinner and thru the night and yet I wear it during the day sometimes when I'm at hom...

They feel great, look great but I look sooooo weird!!! I am used to braced me!! I worried about my retainers for nothing....they bonded a wire the thinness of dental floss to my back teeth. That's it! I talk fine and can't even feel it unless I deliberately run my tongue over it. I pick up my Essex ...

I am free of braces!! I got a fixed retainer bonded onto my bottom teeth that I don't even feel! I was so worried!

I pick up my Essex retainer (for the top) tomorrow but I only have to wear that at night, thank God!

Thanks everyone! The support here is amazing!!! My ortho said I only have to wear my essex at night (even from day 1) but I'm worried about the bottom which I think will be permanent! Oh well...today's the big day...why I am more nervous today than I was when I got these on is beyond me but I am exc...
