Re: Super painful wire changes with Damon-type brackets
Oh gosh, I thought I was the only one! I have self-litigating braces on top and conventional for the bottom, and both are very painful to adjust. Mainly, whenever the techs put any sort of pressure on the teeth, like to shut the gates or stretch the power chain around the loops, it hurts so much I t...

Re: Cavities with braces??
I just had a filling done on a cavity that was found after about a month in braces. It depends on where the cavity is. If it's easily accessible you might not need to do anything extra. Mine was at the side of a tooth so I needed to have the wire removed temporarily. Your dentist will tell you durin...

Re: Braces for the first time at 39
Had my filling followed by an adjustment at the orthodontist's today. It was better than I expected actually. Filling didn't hurt at all other than the 'slight pinch' of the local. Adjustment was still painful (any time the assistant pressed on a tooth, It felt as if it'll fall out!) but I was brace...

Re: Braces for the first time at 39
I'm real bummed about some recent news. I have a cavity. It's my third one this year! It looked alright on xray but the teeth shifting around there revealed it to be worse than expected. I've to get the wire removed, then a filling done and the wire put back. I brush after every meal, waterpik, flos...

Re: When did you start noticing changes after getting braces?
I saw changes in my bottom arch after about two weeks (just about starting on the 4th week now), and felt it too as it became easier to slide the floss in between some teeth. Haven't seen any changes on top yet but it's super crowded other than the extraction gaps so maybe it's harder to see.

Braces for the first time at 39
I'd posted elsewhere but decided to make one here so I can keep updating. Moderate/severe crowding on both archs with rotated top front teeth and a overjet. I got braced two weeks ago, but only my bottom arch was wired. Upper premolars were then extracted and the top wire (with a power chain!) went ...

Re: Waterfloss woes
Ah, I see the one you mean. I've seen it before and was already thinking of getting this one when it's time to change out the tips. Good to know it can be so versatile. Thanks for the info, damoz!

Re: Waterfloss woes
The ortho tip has brushes at the end, right? I usually have classic tip a little away but with this, it looks up you have to get the tip right up to the gums to have the brushes touching?

Re: Newbie planning to finally get braces
Good on you! I also shied away from braces because I didn't want any extractions or change my smile but unfortunately it got to a point where I started getting cavities after many years of otherwise ok teeth. So it's not just cosmetic, but will help keep and maintain healthy teeth too. Good luck!

New to braces
Almost two weeks since braces were put on. I like my teeth as it is, but crooked teeth and a habit of grinding has caused way too many issues. It's been an effort to get used to the braces, I'm still on soft foods (it hurts to bite) and lisping too. Also just had my upper premolars extracted, and it...

Re: Dying for some chips and salsa
Coming up on 2 weeks for me and I'm going through the same. Eggs are about as solid as I can handle right now. It's supposed to get better soon, most people seem to take a couple of weeks, though there's an outlier of a couple of months! Can't wait until I can tackle some chips.

Re: Bone loss after extraction
Thanks, Dan. That's good to hear. Am a worrywart and I've been having more problems with my teeth in the past year than the past ten combined, so I'm kinda anxious about it.

Re: Bone loss after extraction
I was upset when i first heard I need extractions, but I've severe crowding on the upper arch and and an overjet and all three consults I had recommended extraction. There was one ortho who was willing to try without, but she said I'll end up with some amount of flaring and the overjet will get slig...

Bone loss after extraction
I've got a new worry...Is bone loss a concern when extracting premolars for braces? Should I be asking about a bone graft? The gap will be closed in a year or so, but bone loss start as soon as the teeth are out. I'm concerned roots of the moved teeth will show or that the gum will be recessed there...
