Re: Braces causing me Grey hair and hair falling out and thinning out and Anorexia and Bulimia symptoms.

While some of the issues you are experiencing can be inter-related, I think there are several factors at play here and you probably need to seek help for them individually. The eating disorder resulting in malnutrition is one aspect while the other is your bite issues. Your bite issues will improve ...

Re: Braces causing me Grey hair and hair falling out and thinning out and Anorexia and Bulimia symptoms.

I'm not a doctor or a dentist but based on what I've read on eating disorder forums, it sounds like the body hairs and hair loss/thinning is more related to the eating disorder than braces. I would focus on finding a good therapist/dietitian to help navigate that.

Re: Was IPR necessary?

I think majority, of us on this board are fellow patients like you. So I doubt you will get a professional or educated opinion on your case. If you really want a third opinion, you can always go to another orthodontist and ask even though you have already started treatment.

Re: Powerchains

Powerchains are not just used to close gaps. They can also be used to keep several teeth in a unit to prevent them from moving or gaps forming as the ortho works on moving other teeth.

Re: New to braces-age 36-narrow palate and tongue posture

Welcome! I would listen to what your orthodontist says and recommends. He/she will be able to advise whether or not you'll need a palate expansion. Also, bite correction takes a long time. At 5 months in, it's early days yet, so give it some time.Your bite will continue to be all kinds of weird and ...

Re: Extended treatment

It wasn't in my contract explicitly that I have to pay if treatment overran, but it was indicated that my package included 18 + 2 visits (which works out to 1.5 years + the installation and debanding visits). My treatment ended up taking a year and 4 months longer than the initial estimate of 1.5 ye...

Re: Heading back to the ortho--more than 3 months later

Not quite the same situation as you, as I got my braces off just before covid. But I had a bracket broke and that caused my first molars to rotate within minutes. It took my ortho about 4 or 5 months to correct that, and even then, they are still abit off now.

Re: How often do you clean your hawley retainers?

I clean them daily. I brush with water once to get off whatever residue left on them over the night, and then brush them with castile soap to clean them when I take them off every morning. I soak them in retainer brite cleaning tablets once a week.

Re: tooth moved behind other tooth and ortho cant fix it!!

I'm finding it abit hard to picture this. When you say the tooth has moved totally behind your central incisor, did you mean it's now kind of "stacked" one on top of the other like the way you'd stack plates in a cupboard? If so, that's alot of movement on it's own for just a month! I'm no...

I'm heading into my first hospital (Aultman, in Canton Ohio), where my career started 50 years ago, to volunteer my services as an RN. Wish me luck.
Stay safe!

Re: COVID19 - can't get my braces off for foreseeable future!

A friend of mine was scheduled to get her braces off this week before her wedding. She went on a rant about how all appointments are cancelled with the exception of emergencies and that getting her braces off is not considered an emergency. Her wedding is still on in 3 weeks and has no clue how she...

Re: Essix vs Hawley

I have both the essix and the hawley. I was told to wear the essix in the daytime and hawleys at night. I'm supposed to wear my retainers for 24/7 and to only take them out when brushing and eating. I don't wear my essix retainers when I eat or drink anything that's not water. It does stains quite e...

Re: The Painnnn - Root Canals?

I've never had a root canal before, so I can't really comment on that. But I just wanted to chime in and say if your retainers aren't comfortable, this is a good time to go back to your ortho and get them adjusted or even get new ones made since getting a root canal (and crown) will probably change ...

Re: Bruxism & what type of arch wire withstands the least breakage?

Well, the obvious one is, quit your job. Reading your post reminded me of someone. A friend of a friend have been nursing a nasty cough for 2 years, took medications, seen specialists, took scans, all came out negative. But still, the cough wouldn't go away. So my friend suggested to her to quit her...

Re: Black Triangles?

The ortho is the one that does the shaving, and yes, you need the braces to close the gaps after shaving, so it has to happen before debanding. Bring it up to your ortho and ask for it to be done.
