ssfw, It's easy to have confidence in my orthodontist :jump: . It's me that I have trouble having confidence in :paperbag: . He's one of those people who has found his true calling. Love's what he does and is always striving to find an even better way to do it. Had a super nice office close to the b...

Hi ssfw, My expander doesn't work like that. Here's some info off of my ortho's web site (www.gulfcoastorthodontics.com) that describe Series 2000: "The Series 2000, a line of fixed jaw bone expanders...is being labeled as 'the future of orthodontics'. His invention has garnered him world-wide ...

Speaking of sweets, another soft food I enjoy is Edward's Oreo Pie :-* Since I don't want to eat an entire pie, I'm glad Edward's pies can be purchased in boxes of 2 individual servings. I can take out a little boxed triangle, thaw in fridge for 2 hours, and enjoy. But sweet soft items are in large ...

ssfw, Oops, didn't answer one of your questions. I do have a crossbite but a reason for the expander is to create a broad smile. Aesthetically, my ortho is big on taking facial measurements and creating a smile that enhances the adult face. I watched a before and after presentation of some of his ca...

ssfw, I was wondering if your expander was similar to mine because it needed no key but it sounds like your orthodontist makes adjustments to the Quad Helix. The Series 2000 is not adjusted; it is always exerting pressure. The benefit is that results are achieved quickly. I guess that with an adjust...

ssfw wrote: How did you adjust to having the upper and lower expanders placed at the same time? When did your speech and eating return to normal? This has definitely been shock to my system. My palate is like a drop ceiling and my tongue is greiving the loss of the roof of my mouth. My first big iss...

Jimbo, No work on bottom? Well, that is a curiousity... I would definitely ask my ortho if it serves a purpose. One of my kids had a rotated tooth that a spring-looking device (I think it was called a power chain) was placed on in the latter stage of treatment. Helped to reposition the tooth. It's h...

Jimbo, On this web site, there is a nice section called "Braces Basics". Go there and click on "How Do Braces Work?" There was a picture of your little pointy things with a rubber band looking gizmo attached...elastics. Nice explanations for a lot of the funny do-hickeys some of ...

Hi Jimbo! Not 100% sure but I thing those little hooks will ultimately have elastics on them that connect upper to lower. They are part of the tooth moving process. I have them, too, (no elastics on them yet) so I would probably do well to learn about them myself. Put some wax on them because they w...

Congratulations, Sarah! My husband is a dentist so when my two oldest kids got their braces off, he made custom trays for them and gave them Premier whitening gel 21%. The Zoom whitening system is lightening fast but very, very expensive. Premier was a longer process--30min. to 1 hour every day for ...

ssfw, I noticed you are getting a Quad Helix expander. I am wondering how similar this might be to my Series 2000 expander. Yours does not require a key; neither does mine. My understanding is that my expander is constantly exerting low pressure...there is "memory" in the metal design. My ...

Hi ssfw, Your freezer suggestion is great. I recently purchased frozen Boston Market mashed potatoes which are very good but I'm thinking it would be much more economical to make a large homemade batch and freeze individual portions. On Dec. 6, I got palatal expanders (upper & lower); then on De...

I have several but the one I keep returning to is Blistex LipFusion. I noticed someone else here likes it, too. It is not like a waxy chap stick. It is a liquid delivered with a metal roller ball. I've had no chapped lip problems since I started using this.

Noppi, How I wish I could bite into a juicy tenderloin steak right now. And pecan pie would be wonderful. Instead of concentrating on one last good meal, though, I think every day of this final week I would eat something taboo post-braces :D . I've lost about 5 lbs. these past few weeks. I think I w...

I have a smoothie making machine but I have found myself indulging in Smoothie King instead of making my own. I'm hooked on Carribbean Way with soy protein and multi-vitamins. KK mentioned veggies in smoothies. Bolthouse Farms makes a smoothie drink called Green Goodness. I bought it at Walmart in t...
