That is my understanding that the K9's are used as main anchors of manipulation, I could be wrong of course lol

I wonder why it slips up! Maybe ask your ortho for some smaller elastics so they stay taught and hold placement above the bracket better? I'd assume running it under the front brackets could work since the main points of force would still be on the k9's

I only had bottom jaw surgery but I had this issue too, it did resolve after at about the 8/10 week period, my omfs said it's due to the muscles having to learn their new position etc, as well as swelling

Dry lips are common after surgery, make sure you're hydrated and try exfoliating your lips in the shower by lightly brushing them with a toothbrush to get rid of dead skin build up, afterwards apply a chap stick or balm, and reapply often, this really helped me a lot.
