I'm 4 months in and have already been assigned elastics.

Is this pretty typical?

Yeah, the incisors are still too sore for me to bite into anything (even soft foods), and I'm 2 weeks in.

The ortho said they will see the most progress initially so it makes sense. I haven't noticed a difference in my teeth, yet.

Bit the bullet finally. I'm 1 week in. 2 brackets popped off the bottom, central incisors the first day (not my fault) so they're like 4-5 days behind schedule. Just had mine put on, and I'm missing feeling/eating normal again, lol!

The truth is: no one cares. Really.

It's not like how it was 20+ years ago in terms of the types of braces available, treatment options, and the general number of adults walking around with braces on.
In fact, most people say supportive things if anything at all.

I'm on day 4 now and finally don't feel the need to take Advils anymore, lol. Defintely thought it's how it was going to be forever for a minute there.
