Loose Teeth after surgery?

I was in a splint for about 5 weeks. During that time, if I bit down or tensed my teeth, one tooth felt a little more pressure then others, as if it was loose. Fast forward to 3 months post-op, I have at least 4 loose teeth. All are on my bottom jaw. During my surgery, my maxillary artery was cut an...

Liquid perscriptions

Something I didn't think about BEFORE my surgery..... How would I continue to take my thyroid medication?!?! I am hypothyroid (total thyroidectomy) and in the hospital they gave me liquid synthroid, but I didn't think to get a prescription for it. I am not on sythroid normally (another brand) and th...

Re: Oral Surgery and Sleep doctors

one of the reasons I had my procedure was to correct my sleep apnea. From the day of the surgery I was told not to sleep with my cpap anymore. I will followup with a sleep study in a few months to check if my sleep apnea was corrected. So far so good!

Re: Time in braces before surgery

I was in braces for about 15 months before I could do the surgery. For me, the orthro said it was important that my upper and lower teeth were in position, so when they did the break, they could adjust it easier then trying to adjust with braces after the fact. I think I have like 4 more months in b...

Re: Insurance Coordinators are just as important as surgeons

One thing I wish I would have done differently, was to get a "total" quote /estimate.... It took me almost 9+ months to get approved. The insurance coordinator did do a great job getting me approved. I knew what my cost would be for the "surgeons" fee but not the anesthesiologist...

Re: Blood loss / transfusion during surgery

I guess my surgery was estimated to last 4-5 hours... it ended up taking 9!!!! I could only imagine what my husband was thinking in the waiting room.

Re: Do teeth move faster after jaw surgery?

My surgeon said that my orthodontist should "take full advantage" of the shifting of teeth during this time... she said I should go every 3-4 weeks for the next couple months rather then the every 8 weeks. I am a little concerned that my teeth are a little lose (some of them) .. but i'm no...

Re: Improvements in tongue posture after treatment?

My tongue feels like it moved out of the studio apartment and into the penthouse! The only downside, is I have to go to speech therapy. I think the difference was so drastic, my tongue / lips don't know what to do with themselves.

Re: How Long before exercise after double jaw surgery?

At 5 weeks, I was given the "all clear" to continue to exercise. I was allowed to "walk" but I didn't have the strength and got WAY to dizzy to walk alone. Somebody would have to go with me for the first 3 weeks or so.

Blood loss / transfusion during surgery

About 6.5 weeks ago I had the following procedures: -ORIF Maxilla Laforte -ORIF Mandible Bilateral -Septoplasty -Genioplasty During my procedure, something went "wrong" and I ended up loosing 1500mL of blood due to the maxillary artery. I had to get a blood transfusion and got about 4 unit...

Re: Soft foods post-surgery

I'm at 6.5 weeks post op. Here are some of my food ideas: -1/2 cup of oatmeal, banana, pinch of brown sugar, protein powder, dash of cinnamon, 1 to 1.5 cups of boiling water all blended. Cold milk to cool down and make even thinner as needed. This was my go to breakfast -Homemade bone broth! Should ...

Re: PRE & POST-OP SUPPLY LIST---add your list or ideas

I am at 6.5 post op. Here is what I found important: -100% Cocoa Butter Lip Balm. My lips were so swollen and dry, EOS was not cutting it! -CoolJaw wrap. Used it for the "ice" for the first couple days, then was able to use it for heat -Infuser to help with breathing: Eucalyptus, peppermin...
