Re: Brushed gum away
Why do you say it has been "brushed away"? Are you sure it is not just gum recession? If it is gum recession, it it unlikely it will just grow back. You should probably get an opinion from your orthodontist or dentist and they will send you to a periodontist if they think it is bad enough....

Re: BSSO first before sliding genioplasty?
I would not suggest demanding or pushing him to do anything he isn't comfortable with. I too would be a little nervous about getting surgery from someone who only does 3-5 of these a year, especially considering that every case is different. I don't think what you're doing with sliding your jaw forw...

Increased mucous since surgery
So I know it's completely normal to have a lot of mucous from the nose for a few weeks after surgery but I am coming up on 5 months and my nose is still more productive than it ever was before surgery. It seems to build up in my sinuses every other day or so to the point that I can blow it out and t...

Re: How Long before exercise after double jaw surgery?
I barely opened my mouth the first 6 weeks and certainly was not chewing anything (all liquid). Starting to eat again was one of the biggest struggles. As for exercise, I tried doing road cycling around 1 month out and quickly realized that the vibrations were extremely uncomfortable. Light/moderate...

Re: Sliding genioplasty vs chin implant nerve damage
I don't know about permanent nerve damage but I definitely had a good amount of pain in my chin about two months after surgery as the nerves began to come back. At 4 months, my chin is still fairly numb, but I'm not sure if this is related to the lower jaw movement or the sliding genioplasty.

Re: Do I need humidifier for after surgery?
I did not use a humidifier at all, so I can't really say if it would have made much difference but Afrin definitely helped.

Re: How many surgeons did you consult?
Just one. I had a few recommendations from my dentist and orthodontist, and after meeting with him I was very impressed so didn't take the time to look further.

Re: Struggling to be Optimistic!!!
My advice from experience would be to stick with it. Let your doctors know your timeline/goal. Make it a 2 way conversation and get them to explain why it is taking so long. Maybe there is a valid reason, maybe they are just not as concerned with the treatment time as you, maybe both. You really don...

Re: Surgery Notes Don't Have Measurements
I think my surgeon included all of that in the initial insurance requests but I never got the final measurements. The surgery notes from the hospital just showed the procedures performed that I had to sign off on. I really didn't involve myself in any of the pre operation planning, which I'm glad of...

Re: Nerve Regeneration Timeline
I think you just need to give it more time. I'm almost 3 months and definitely feel some of the same things. Notably, cold feeling in chin when drinking cold liquid, lots of numbness still in lip, random pins and needles, hypersensitivity in gums, pinching feeling in my chin when using my front lowe...

Re: Updates after a botched surgery and Ask for suggestions
I'm no expert and it is hard for me to see the asymmetry from the pictures. As others have said, it looks to be pretty minor, your bite looks good and personally I don't think I'd want to do a revision. Of course, I can sympathize completely and it is hard to say without being in your shoes. What I ...

Re: Updates after a botched surgery and Ask for suggestions
I don't see much of a problem other than your lower jaw is a little off center. It looks to me like this happened since you had your lower braces removed because in your x-rays it appears aligned. I had this same thing happen but it was fixed in a matter of days by just wearing rubber bands. Unfortu...

Re: Surgical clips left after surgery?
Nothing that I would understand to be out of the ordinary. Everything has gone smoothly so far. I was just curious if anyone else had seen or heard of these. I guess I should just try to forget about it and trust my surgeon knows what he's doing. At this point I have no reason not to. Not a lot of i...

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!
You have some great tips here. Just adding to a few of your points: Icing- I iced nonstop for the 5 days I was in the hospital which probably helped a lot but I feel like I could have done even better. The ice bags (the ones you tie together) were terrible because they are almost impossible to posit...

Re: Time in braces before surgery
You need to find out why he wants you in braces for 4-6 months. In my case, I had braces years ago in my teens and had the new ones put on 1 month before the surgery. My orthodontist suggested putting them on a month just so that I could get used to them (very glad I followed his advice). My surgeon...
