Re: Overjet fixable with only braces? Or is surgery necessary?
Get second opinions from other reputable orthodontists in your area. Personally, if I were in your position I would avoid surgery at all costs if satisfactory correction is possible through only orthodontics. Jaw surgery is a huge burden and has some risks that aren't necessary unless your jaws affe...

Re: Upper Jaw Moved Too Far Forward?
Your profile looks very natural and your proportions are good. I believe reducing the lower jaw would have given you a weak/recessed jaw. No part of your profile strikes me as out of balance. You look great... now smile and show off the perfect bite!!!

(5mo post-op) Lip incompetence + large upper lip
Hi, Could anyone express some thoughts on two of my concerns post-op? Picture for reference: http://i.imgur.com/Zsf4Vp2.jpg Upper lip: There is some noticeable scar tissue under my upper lip on the gum line. Could this be pushing my upper lip forward and making it look bigger? Also, is it possible m...

Re: Numbness
Yes the tip of my tongue was numb/tingly for several weeks post-op. I can't remember when I noticed the feeling back exactly but I reckon around 2 months post-op my tongue had no numbness or tingling sensation.

Re: Looking for insight on chewing progression
Can anymore users chime in? I'm looking for some brief timelines of chewing progression.
I was thinking week one for breakfast I would be eating french toast, pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns, etc. Lunch, perhaps pastas or lasagna.

Re: Energy
I was fairly active around 4-5 weeks post-op, engaging in a lot of walking around outside and biking on trails. Log your diet/fluid intake and your sleep habits. If you're still on a liquid diet, ideally you're consuming around 2000 mL of fluid and enough calories to be gaining back lost weight at 5...

Looking for insight on chewing progression
Hi, I will be permitted to start chewing again within about 2 weeks. Can fellow jaw surgery victims give a good list of food to progress with? Example: First week... start with pastas, tender fish, etc. Second week... muffins, soft bread, fruit, etc. My surgeon did not provide any advice other than ...

Re: Very unsure of surgery. Thoughts/advice? Have seen Gunson
I am absolutely not a professional so I can't say with certainty what the correct choice for correction. From the data and measurement provided, I would assume an orthodontist could achieve a satisfactory bite by simply correcting the arch of both upper and lower. If this is true, I would avoid any ...

Re: Need help on figuring out whether to do double jaw surgery and porportions
Have you gotten any opinions from surgeons? To achieve a correct bite and the jawline/shorter face you desire, you would likely have both jaws advanced (upper further than lower), upper jaw raised, and a genio, but I'm no professional . From your pictures I would suggest you have great natural cheek...

Re: Watery Nose Bleeds
Hi, I would suppress your concern until at least 2 weeks post-op. It's unlikely your sinuses were damaged as a result of the jaw movement. The bloody nose is almost always associated with the aggressive insertion of tubes in the nostrils by the anesthesiologist. Although my bloody noses weren't as f...

Re: Double jaw surgery and speech?
Hi bighoss! Im so glad to hear that! Were you told that speech improvements might not be a guarantee?! I was really disappointed when the hospital said that to me :( I think nothing is guaranteed just because of the nature of surgery, but if you have an underbite it is likely your speech will impro...

Re: Double jaw surgery and speech?
I had a significant underbite and speech was a big concern prior to surgery for me as well. After surgery, speaking felt much more natural in regards to how my teeth and tongue touched. I enjoy speaking in front of others a lot more now. I had a lisp prior to surgery as family members noted, and now...

Re: LeFort to treat sleep apnea also affect breathing during exercise
No sleep apnea here but I did notice an improvement in breathing during exercise following surgery. My surgeon specifically noted he would enhance my airway via genio. My breathing feels more natural, especially during exercise. (Double jaw surgery, underbite) Did they move your lower jaw forward o...

Re:
Always ask your surgeon as these questions are personal to each patient. I was forbidden from any exercise other than walking for 6 weeks, then at 6 weeks I was permitted to cycle and lift weights, provided I do not clench my teeth. Running, swimming, etc. all forbidden until 4 months post-op. Based...
