Re: Smoking!!!
Nope. Unless you get white bands/powerchains. I've had no other negative effects and I smoke nearly a pack a day. I also had two lateral inscisors removed and smoked right after and no issues. Now I will say that when I had a wisdom tooth pulled and smoked I developed a dry socket. But nothing to no...

Re: Powerchains... ouch!
Three days for me... Front gap was closed in 2 though. I went with white and hate it too. Thinking grey next time. Ibuprofen helps with the pain but decreases the inflammation needed to move teeth. Pain is beauty
Good luck!

Re: John Oliver had work done and now I am too
Yes, wire poking out usually either mean two things, 1: movement, 2: the wire came out of its groove. If its completely through the last bracket, its still good. If its out, you should be able to manipulate it back in. But I am assuming just movement; yay!! I only wore that apparatus you saw in my p...

Re: John Oliver had work done and now I am too
Use wax! I am currently battling the" omg I can't stand it anymore" phase with the lip rubbing. It may feel tolerable now, but it gets worse. Trust me and put wax on the teeth you feel rubbing ASAP. You and I have very similar mouth structures. You can look at my profile and see my results...

Truly! You can imagine my excitement!
I'm beginning to feel like a whole new person. I have let a few smiles slip, and I gotta admit, I wasn't so ashamed anymore.

Re: Getting an expander at 40+ years old
You have a much wider arch than I expected. And nice alignment as well! It seems to fit well and isn't as bulky as mine was. Glad to hear that it's going so well!!

Re: Expander! Extractions! Braces,hooray!
Power chain went on today. Wishing I'd have picked a different color besides white. Other than that, there has been no pain with it. I also had the bottom wire put on today and omgoodness! The pressure is much greater than the top ever was! Ugh! I have to keep reminding myself that, in this case, pa...

Re: Expander! Extractions! Braces,hooray!
Feeling confident enough to finally post pics. 2nd pic is 3 months in. Very pleased with progress. Begin gap closure with powerchains the 20th. Also getting the lowers bracketed too that date! Yay to smiling soon!! (Sorry for the lousy picture quality, my teeth are luckily not that yellow lol.) 2017...

Re: Getting an expander at 40+ years old
I had this exact contraption in for 2 months. My experience won't help the nervousness you feel though, I'm afraid. I hated that thing from the moment my tongue first pressed against it. It was so thick, I literally had zero arch space. Making EVERYTHING overwhelming and embarrassing! Eating was not...

Re: Expander! Extractions! Braces,hooray!
Updating post I had my ortho remove my expander a couple weeks ago. A, because I could no longer stand the horrific speech deficits and B, it wasn't working. The orthodontist agreed that it wasn't going as planned, but he wanted to keep it in as an anchor. An anchor?! I knew there had to be another ...

Re: Expander! Extractions! Braces,hooray!
:GapToothed: I had my two lateral incisors extracted today. Procedure was quick and easy! I am curious to see how long it takes the gaps to close. I have a "v" arch so I am hoping those front teeth will straighten right into place fairly quickly. Anyone else have extractions of incisors?? ...

Re: Expander! Extractions! Braces,hooray!
I must have traditional too then, I have the rubber bands holding the wire on as well! I went with white this round. I figure when I feel confident enough to smile, I'll get some cool color. I bet it's exciting to see movement! You weren't able to eat? I have some soreness, but nothing's stopping th...
