Re: In progress: Adult Palate Expander (w/ surgery)

Wow, that's fascinating! Please keep posting your progress, I'd love to see how it evolves. Is the expander likely to change how your teeth look? And will you be getting braces/jaw surgery as well?

Re: Decisions Decisions

This is really just echoing the others here, but my experience with having braces on so far has been really positive - and I was so nervous about showing them for the first time at work. What I've found is that they very quickly become just another part of your face, and people who you deal with on ...

Re: Teeth still hurt

I'm EXACTLY the same way! I've had my braces for just over 3 weeks now and can't bite into anything because my teeth are too tender. So I'm cutting everything up still.

Try to see it as a good thing, it means the teeth are ready to move move move! At least that's what I tell myself...

Re: If you've had braces for an open-bite please come inside!

Hello Flowerpower! I''m currently in my third week of braces to correct an anterior open bite and mild crowding, and I too had a thumb sucking habit as a child so we might have quite similar situations! I'm going the surgery route, which is probably not what you want to hear. Funnily enough, I actua...

Re: Another freshly braced newbie :)

For the first 5 or 6 days it was pretty horrid :( but now it's ok, although I can't bite into anything or put force on any of the canines on both arches - way too sensitive. But I'm at the point now where I can sometimes forget I'm even wearing them so that must be a good sign!

Whoops I called you Felina, sorry about that :) navy blue and turquoise sounds lovely, I love navy blue. I don't suppose you have a pic? No worries if you'd rather not. I've got boring clear ones at the moment so I'm fascinated with people's colours haha

Oh this is good to know! What colour did you switch to, Felina?

Re: How long did you use wax for?

I've had my braces a grand total of 10 days and had stopped using the wax by yesterday - so hang in there, it does get better! If you can handle it, it might be good to have periods of time where you don't use the wax, so that your mouth can build up a tolerance (i.e. hard skin) to it. Interesting t...

Re: Do you spend more time looking at teeth?

I definitely notice teeth a lot more now. But I would never judge someone for having bad teeth, braces are so incredibly expensive that I just can't justify having a negative attitude about other people's wonky teeth. And hey, not everyone is self-conscious about their teeth - if someone is happy wi...

Re: I failed at braces. Should I try again?

If it doesn't cost you too much, I'd recommend getting a few more opinions from board certified orthodontists. That way, you can hopefully identify a pattern - for example, if 3 out of 4 recommend a certain type of treatment (e.g. surgery) then you can be relatively confident that that's the 'right'...

I know what you mean, I feel like I spend way too much time analysing my teeth in the mirror now. Such a waste of time really!! But hard to stop :(

Does it get easier the more you expose the tooth to cold water? Worried about this happening to me as I haven't started elastics yet :(

Re: bad brace experience

I'm sorry to hear you've had such a bad experience :( I thought IPR is usually done to fix crowding - has it helped at all? What are your bite issues? (cross bite, open bite etc)

Hello, friendlyturtle! I'm new as well. I had two extractions on my lower arch due to mild crowding, so now the waiting game begins for those pesky gaps to close. When did you first start seeing changes in your teeth? I've only had mine on for five days, I'm a bit impatient haha. Puckloo, I'm sure y...

Another freshly braced newbie :)

Hi everyone, just thought I'd get acquainted with you all! I just got braced five days ago to fix an open bite and overjet. I had two premolars removed in my lower jaw to correct the crowding as well. I think the braces hurt more than the extractions, I didn't expect it to hurt so much! Ouchies!! It...
