Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

You certainly sound like a very caring person; your sister is lucky to have you. I know this is a tough situation for you and your family. I'm sorry to hear that you and your sister are experiencing these issues and roadblocks. If it's any conciliation, I know what it's like and I am hopefully for y...

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

Hi. I’m going for a 2nd opinion on revision surgery and have lined up two different surgeons for consultation. Do you have any tips on what I should look for or what type of questions I should ask? In my prior posts I've listed guidelines for picking a surgeon in general (do they have claims, what'...

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

I'm sorry to hear about your sister's situation. Having gone through this (and coming out the other side) I know how painful and frustrating it must be. I've written at length in this thread about how I was able to get my surgeon to agree to a revision. Here's what worked for me: 1. Work with facts,...

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

Hoping to find some support here for my 21 year old daughter, scheduled for double jaw surgery in 2 months. The surgeon is very well respected however he was almost flippant in response to her concerns over how she will look as well as concerns over numbness. She’s like to just go with him because ...

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

Hi All - OP here - felt it good to come back and provide a whopping 4 year update! This topic was on my mind, and I wanted to come back and post to close this out. My last update (from 10 months after surgery - which is close to 3 years ago!), still resonates with me today. I continue to be satisfie...

tdc10 - Tried PMing you, but it looks like you haven't been on long enough for private messages. My surgery was in the New England area.

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

Small update, OP here. Had my 10 month check up recently. I would say I am quite satisfied with the cosmetic outcome of the revision. I've been out of braces for about 2 months. I'd say I still have some minor residual swelling. Nothing anyone would notice. Hell, I probably wouldn't notice it myself...

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

Thanks for the reply! A few more questions as I come up with them... - After your first surgery, did the 4mm anterior disimpaction result in 4mm of extra tooth show? - Have you had a large change in your nose (widening or becoming upturned) from the downgraft and forward movement? I have some stron...

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

Hi! I've tried to reply to your questions, below, in red. Hey iamamused! I have a few questions regarding how you went about a revision. - Did you ever consult other surgeons? I did for the initial surgery. For the revision I did not. I struggled with this decision. Stay with what I know, or go some...

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

I began my initial surgeon search the exact way as you. By taking recommendations from my orthodontist and following up with the insurance company for in-network doctors. My insurance is through work. Health care is provided by Cigna, and dental is by Delta Dental. My dental policy is quite limited....

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

I was fixated with bands for both surgeries. My surgeon utilizes plates and screws to hold the bone while it heals (unless there's a problem with plate rejection, infection, or loosening) they usually stay in for the rest of your life. My jaw was then very strongly banded to eliminate movement. Ther...

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

Thanks. Glad my post was of some help. I too had a deep over bite w/a little bit of over jet as well. Braces did correct the overjet and help to reduce the appearance of my over bite somewhat. But yes, ultimately surgery is the only way to perform the large movements required to bring the jaw into a...

Re: Actually Corrected Midline?

OP, you are still not that far from surgery so certainly swelling is in play - your nerves are also still likely numb and coming back. A good way to tell if your midline is off, is to measure from the center of your eyes down to the middle of your teeth. The will take the visual impact of the soft t...
