Mine touches the palate, although there is a little gap towards the center of the roof of my mouth.
same here. :D I just got another set of essix retainers and this time they cut out the entire palate! Feels more comfortable for nighttime wear although I wouldn't want it for daytime ...

I now experience what a bite not being stable means. If I don't wear my retainers for even only some hours, it feels like my teeth shifted already and my retainers are more difficult to put in. So, I wear them about all the time. I also experience this feeling like my teeth are now a lot less, how ...

HI CLO ! :-1 Just checking in to see how my friend is doing. I haven't been on the website in a very long time. Looks like you may be contemplating the jaw surgery. I know its a tough decision to make as there is no going back. Wish you the best in whatever treatment you choose, Clo. Its ...

I wear my regular retainers and then the www.splintek.com mouthguard which I bought in the drug store and works terrific! I tried the custom made mouthguard from the dentist but it was bulky and did not prevent me from clenching. This one did. No more TMJ pain now. The price was great too.

Clo, forgive me if someone asked this question before, but didn't they try to intrude the back molars already and it did not work? And what reason did Ortho 4 give for wanting to extract the wisdom teeth? Did he feel that he could do accomplish something by those extractions? And have you decided ag...

Re: Essix retainer questions (pics)
My ortho's instructions were 24/7 for one year, then nightly for 2 years, then maybe I can skip a night or two.
My first essix did not cover the entire tooth to the gum line, but my new ones goes way past the tooth to the gum line. Different orthos. Not sure if it makes a difference. Ask.

You can get replacement retainers from any ortho in your area. There wasn't a cost for making a mold, just the retainer fee. I joined a dental discount plan with ortho discounts and so get a discount on replacement retainers (I've had a few already  ) The plastic essix ones are usually cheaper...

IOnce you are debanded, yes a properly fitted nightguard is an option once again. I had issues with my upper Hawley retainers, so my ortho put me in an upper bonded retainer. That runs only lateral to lateral. When I verified with him whether he was comfortable with me going into a proper nightguar...

I've read a few places that soft mouthguards can sometimes exacerbate grinding, and even they do not do this, they can contribute to strain on the TMJ in a way that a properly fitted, rigid nightguard does not. . I've read the same information too and was skeptical of trying this new nightguard. Tr...

www.splintek.com
This worked wonders for me! You can find them at your local pharmacy stores for about $40. I wear my retainers also. They can be worn with braces (although perhaps not in the elastic phase).
