The ol' midline-boogaloo!

I don't even know what that's supppsed to mean -- midline-boogaloo. I'm just in a quirky mood, I guess. I'm on vacation, and I think I'm growing restless. OK enough of that, then! So here's the dealio: My midline is off, well, pretty significantly I'd say. My two front teeth come down at the very ce...

Re: Reccommended type of braces? and Colour?

If I could do it over again, I'd get metal on both the bottom and the top. The ceramic were the same price as the metal, so I thought, "cool!" Yeah, well, unless you eat boiled chicken with rice and potatoes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I find it hard to believe that you won't see sta...

Re: 2.5 hours in adult braces - should I not be in pain ??

I have been in braces for nine months now, and I've yet to feel anything that I would describe as being "pain." Discomfort? Maybe. But not even discomfort really. Just a certain tightness but it doesn't feel bad necessarily. I'm a wimp when it comes to pain, too. So I'm pleasantly surprised.

Re: Braces and weight loss query

I've definitely lost weight. I can't blame it all on the braces though. I'm a teacher, so I've got 20 minutes to eat, and that's hardly enough time to begin with. But with braces, eating just feels like an even bigger inconvenience, having to take out my elastics, throw down some food, go to the bat...

Re: Unexplainable...

When did everyone have the molar build ups removed? I'm at a little over six months and mine are still on. They do bother me because they are the type that is just composite put on the front top of two of my molars (think pointier than the blue stuff I have seen here) Do you have to ask if you are ...

Re: Unexplainable...

Yep! Sounds like a molar build-up, and I won't sugarcoat it for you: They SUCK! I remember that first week thinking, "am I ever going to be able to chew anything?" Eventually, you learn. But it took me a long time before I felt comfortable with them.

Agreed. Frankly, I'm surprised that they're giving back as much as they are. I'd take the 75%.

Re: Extraction or no extraction?

I would seriously consider the extractions; there's a lot of fear mongering here regarding the subject, but I'm of the opinion that extractions are sometimes -- even oftentimes -- necessary.

When I was a kid - I didn't have to have my tonsils out, or my adenoids, but I got the luck of having to have the wisdom teeth out. It's life. Isn't that the truth! I had my adenoids out as a kid, and I'll probably need to have my tonsils out at some point too, as they're always causing me trouble....

Re: Study Abroad for 4 months... with Braces?!?!

Oh man, oh man! Studying abroad was one of the greatest experiences of my life, and it's something that I would recommend to anyone and everyone. I'd do whatever you have to do to make it work out. Your treatment is important, and probably comes first, truth be told, but I wouldn't want to miss this...

Re: Really upset with my orthodontist, should I transfer?

If, in fact, this orthodontist of yours misplaced the brackets and caused you harm, and you'll be made to pay out of pocket in order to correct the situation, then yes, you'll want to meet with an attorney and discuss your options.

Re: Intro + a question about ratio of men vs. women in braces

I ran into a male friend the other day (i am female) who he has VERY crooked teeth, i was talking about my braces and he told me that i should indeed fix my teeth cause i am a woman while his are not a big deal because he is a man. I found that funny since his teeth are way worse than mine but he s...

Re: Should I or should I not use whitening tooth paste?

The assistant at my orthodontist's office recently had her own braces removed and explained that she used "whitening" toothpaste all throughout her treatment. No squares. I'm not an orthodontist, so I'll refrain from giving advice that I'm not qualified to give, but *my* orthodontist said ...
