Re: Surgery and work

@sirwired Your go to meal makes me nauseous just thinking about it!! My boss has been asking me if I am gong through with this or not--havent actually sat down to discuss details yet though...waiting on some concrete info first from the surgeon. I get the military having to back you up but fo...

Re: What should I expect at the initial surgical consultation?

Ha! I can see my reaction being similar--maybe even totally regretting it at first. Did the surgeon give you a good idea of what changes to expect?

Re: What should I expect at the initial surgical consultation?

Thanks--checking out the NHS guide! Im hoping to at least be able to take my dog out on some short walks early-ish on or she and I both may lose our minds. Im glad you brought up the anxiety issues that come with a "new" face. Ive been wondering--even after the swelling goes down and you s...

Re: Surgery and work

I'm a pretty tough gal when it comes to pain but my stomach has a serious ability to bring medications right back up. :) I have no doubt much vomit will be involved. Good to know how long you were on liquids only though. I imagine theres a lot of weight loss involved? Wedge pillows---got it! ;) Than...

Re: What should I expect at the initial surgical consultation?

Thanks, again. Im hoping that after 2-3 weeks I might be able to work part-time at least and maybe work my way up from there then. Ive heard its not actually that painful and most issues are from swelling and loss of feeling in the face, is that correct? Maybe this is a dumb question then but what i...

Re: Surgery and work

Funny thing is...the part I look forward to the least is sleeping upright. THATS how much I hate it. It baffles me that there are people who can sleep in cars or in a chair. I had a previous surgery where I *had* to sleep upright...didnt last long at all. Rip me apart via surgery...ok I can handle t...

Re: Surgery and work

Ok so--let me ask THIS--what was the worst part of the whole thing? And-how long did you stay in the hospital? Apparently the "new" common way of doing jaw surgery is for the surgeon to NOT accept insurance--but instead to bill the patient directly. This means no one is dealing with the bi...

Re: Surgery and work

Another quick point. I had 2 incisions on the outside for my lower jaw and now I can't even tell so I'm happy about that. Why the two incisions on the outside? The surgeon had to make 2 tiny incisions to be able to put some screws in the plate for my lower jaw. Wow---glad its not leaving any major ...

Re: Surgery and work

Thanks guys...this gives me an idea at least. It sounds like I would actually miss less work than I was expecting so thats good. How long would you recommend needing someone to help take care of you/your home? A few days at most? How long did you have to sleep upright? I cannot, for the life of me, ...

Re: What should I expect at the initial surgical consultation?

How do you actually LOOK after, say 3 weeks? Are you heavily bruised? Also, do you think you can care for yourself after surgery? (versus needing someone to help you out--is that really needed?)

Surgery and work

How long did you miss work after jaw surgery? What kind of work do you do? Was this a problem for your employer? I am not at all sure how my employer would take it if I had to miss a lot of work. Im off to a consult soon with a surgeon but looking to see how possible this is for me in the first plac...
