Re: Lower jaw expansion for crowded teeth.

Extracting two incisors seems extreme, especially given the photos. I think the most important thing is to get at least a second opinion and treatment plan. I'd never approve an extraction and surgery plan without knowing that's the consensus, but maybe you already have done that. Good luck!

Wow. Just....wow! The amount of change in only five months is unbelievable. Who wouldn't be thrilled with that kind of progress? Continued good luck the rest of the way.

Re: TMJ and Cross Bite

- How much longer has your treatment gone over than originally expected? My ortho initially hoped we might wrap up by Mar, then by the end of summer. So I guess we're 5 mo and counting. Tipping molars can be a slow process, as you might have guessed with your Invisalign experience. However, we'd al...

Re: TMJ and Cross Bite

Hi akabugs - Your description is exactly what my ortho has been working on: TM joint pain caused by functional shift (and rotation); crossbite; stubborn molar movement; etc. Feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to answer any questions, but the most important one you probably have is "has it h...

Re: SARPE/Braces at 35

Three days post op..Ate some ravioli and cake today for lunch. Your impaired-eating menu sounds better than my everyday menu, making jaw surgery almost sound appealing. Unless, of course, you puréed the ravioli and cake and then ate it through a squeeze tube, in which case jaw surgery sounds exactl...

Definitely not a big deal. Delayed routine appts < delayed debonding appt < everything else going on. HOWEVER, these ligatures are definitely not going to make it 12 weeks!! I will absolutely, positively be DIY-changing those!!! The only question is when, and how often! The considerations are:...

Re: "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" - Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead

And the cancellations begin... I just received a form email from my ortho office that they're suspending all appointments until further notice. Other than saying they would follow up to reschedule cancelled appointments, there was no time frame for the closure (because there's no way for them to kno...

Re: COVID19 - can't get my braces off for foreseeable future!

I hadn't even thought about the impact on ortho or dentist appointments until seeing this and twedledee's post. It makes sense that those polishers can fling stuff airborne, but what about the stuff that flies off when they're blasting your teeth with air during prep, or spraying the water streams? ...

Re: "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" - Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead

I'm in lockdown in Italy, and my debrace-day is April 2...isn't it ironic? I think I'm going to enjoy braces a little bit longer  smh, as if you needed one more thing to add to your long list of things affected by your lockdown. Obviously, protecting everyone is most important, but I hadn...

Re: "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" - Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead

Geez, I try to remember to grab my little squeeze bottle of hand sanitizer during this “wash your hands constantly and don’t touch your face” coronavirus situation. But I forget — a lot — and it’s putting a serious dent in being able to pop out elastics right before a meeting or to replace them as q...

Re: "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" - Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead

Yeah, the joint pain has improved a lot! Still there, but not as severe and doesn't last as long. But let me repeat: big improvement! I'd been starting to wonder if this was actually going to work and be worth it, but this latest step forward has me back in the encouraged category . The on...

...my teeth are still skewed towards the left side and the main teeth that touch are my left lateral incisors and canines. Chewing is awkward and it's hard to eat certain foods without having to swallow them halfway...the shift is still causing me bite problems. Honestly, these sound like "bef...

When you cut it's head off, two grow back...

It’s been a few months…. So, the elastics have been doing a pretty good job! The primary downside is the period of time when things move in just the right (wrong?) way and you wind up with only one point of contact for awhile. It makes molar buildups and their resulting two points of contact seem lu...

Re: "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" - Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead

Quick update: In an attempt to get things moving a little faster, they decided to add crossbite elastics and also cemented in an arch/bar that runs from 1st molar to 1st molar. They said the bar is for anchorage (anchors those molars to each other) so they can apply force (wire/elastics) to the othe...

Re: Getting braces for the second time at 25

Hey Kendra You could probably spend half a day just reading through all of the threads and debates on AW over The Great Metal v Ceramic Debate! There's a LOT that's been said on the topic. But at the end of it, you'd probably still be confused! I think the best advise I'd give is to get a feel for w...
