Re: March 2016 surgery buds
JAWA, Have you read "Sleep Interrupted?" If not, I highly recommend it. You can finish it in a night. You're going to see yourself over and over in the book. The author definitely thinks that anxiety/depression are common to those with obstructed airways. And, ADD/ADHD, Infertility, I can'...

Re: March 2016 surgery buds
Update on 150-300mm2 vs 15-30mm2 That was the AREA of the circle that is your airway. If you take the area of a 300mm2 circle, the diameter is about 19.54mm , or 0.769 inches in diameter, so about 3/4 an inch. At 150mm2 area, the diameter is 13.82 mm, or 0.505 inches in diameter, or about 1/2 inch M...

Re: March 2016 surgery buds
Well, Golly. I never did that math. You're right. 6" would be a huge airway. All I know is that on the CBCT, it looked like the airway actually closed in one spot. I know that I'm getting my whole face moved forward quite a bit. I've seen the computer generated pictures, and they're not overly ...

Re: Did Insurance Help Pay for Your Surgery?
I don't know. My husband doesn't either. I see my surgeon 6 days pre-op, and he makes a surgical stent that he'll have to do quite a bit of lab work with. It's not covered by insurance. My *understanding* is that the stent is placed in my mouth during surgery, and it's what keeps my occlusion/bite a...

Re: March 2016 surgery buds
No, the oral surgeon told me that I have about 10% of a "normal" airway, when I'm awake and standing. That's based on whatever normal is. They wanted to see at least 150mm to begin with for me to be considered the lowest end of normal. But, like the other surgeon told me, it's still the Wi...

Re: March 2016 surgery buds
Hi Y'all, This is Claire. OK, background. I'm 55 years old, and married to a dentist with a lot of advanced training in restorations, occlusion/bite, TMJ. I was in Ortho once as a child, and 4 or 5 more times since I got married. I can never remember which. There are several theories of how to appro...

Re: March 2016 surgery buds
Thanks for the update! Sounds like you're doing great. I'm proud of you. I am going to take your advice on not overthinking the liquid diet. My main concern is all the things that I'm sensitive to, like yogurt, dairy, eggs, oats, corn, tomatoes, yeast, wheat and gluten to name a few. We were plannin...

Re: Arnett or Gunson in Santa Barbara?
You can call the financial person at Dr. Gunson's office, and she'll give you the specifics. They aren't in network with any insurance plans, so you are going to pay more out of pocket. A lot of times, there are very good reasons for making that decision.

Re: Anyone have an out-of-town orthodontist?
Oops, he gave you more than one referral, and it's out of town.
I would call back and ask Dr. Gunson which one of the above would best suit your case, and/or has worked most successfully with him on cases like yours.

Re: Anyone have an out-of-town orthodontist?
If you are going to Dr. Gunson, you're already going out of state. My husband is a dentist, and using the example of Orthodontists, he has a handful that he refers to. He bases his referral on the complexity and needs of the case. Most times, he only gives a patient one referral because he knows tha...

Re: Did Insurance Help Pay for Your Surgery?
I was hoping to get my surgery in during 2015. It wasn't possible. So, going into 2016, I shopped around for insurance companies. I found that THE most helpful approach was to speak with the Insurance Coordinator at your Oral Surgeon's office and ask him/her which insurance company is the absolute e...

Re: PRE & POST-OP SUPPLY LIST---add your list or ideas
Claire again. Re-reading my post, it sounds like I'm a rep, and/or spam. I promise I'm not. I don't even know the name of the company that makes it. I just know that there's no way in the world I'd have orthopedic surgery without waking up in recovery without a Cryo Cuff in place and circulating. He...

Re: PRE & POST-OP SUPPLY LIST---add your list or ideas
Hi Y'all, Claire here. New to the group. My surgery is April 21st. My question is about an alternative to the Jaw Bra called a CryoJaw. Basically, it's a Jaw Bra with a tube in it that goes out to a cooler which circulates cold water through the Jaw Bra. This way you don't have to have multiple Bras...
