Re: Still swollen at 7 months post op. What the heck?

Welp. Well, it turns out my chin implant has infected biofilm around it. That means surgery #3 to remove it, heavy antibiotics and a month without my chin, and then surgery #4 to place a custom chin/jawline implant.

Re: Still swollen at 7 months post op. What the heck?

You say that your body rejected the hardware and you had all the hardware removed but one piece. Is it possible that you're dealing with an allergy, not an infection? And that that one piece of hardware is still causing an allergic reaction? Just an idea.... OH NO. He did mention that he may have t...

Still swollen at 7 months post op. What the heck?

I had my double jaw surgery + chin implant + mid face implants on June 7. My body rejected my hardware and I had all but one piece removed in August + revision mid face implants (larger). I am still having swelling around my chin. Three weeks ago I was put on antibiotics because my surgeon thought i...

Re: April - June Surgery Buddies

I had my surgery on June 7. Splint came out yesterday. BSSO, LeFort 1, chin implant (replaced an old one, genioplasty wasn't possible, I has too much bone erosion), and submalar implants. It's amazing that my teeth click together, but... 1. My submalar implants are WAY too small. 2. My chin implant ...

I just had my BSSO, Lefort I, chin and cheek implants on June 7. I basically wanna die at the moment, but it's getting better.

Honestly, if you can get insurance to pay for it, go for the surgery. I say that because my case is similar to yours and orthodontics did not fix my deficient lower jaw.

Re: In what way were you "functionally impaired"? Need help with an unhelpful office and insurance.

I'm switching practices. I took hours of my time researching my insurance company's coverage language and sent them EXACT instructions on how to alter the language of my packet so I could have the best chance to win my appeal. They not only did NOT change anything on my packet, but they also sent me...

Re: In what way were you "functionally impaired"? Need help with an unhelpful office and insurance.

Wow. I wrote the surgeon and his PCC last week, asking for changes to the language of my pre-authorization packet, and I have received no response. Not even an "We're on it." I wrote the PCC today to ask how long it would take - no response. It's time to get my records and switch practices...

Re: In what way were you "functionally impaired"? Need help with an unhelpful office and insurance.

Does this OMFS not do much orthognathic? Because arguing with insurance about approval is par for the proverbial course with orthognathic... I'd say "barely able to chew" qualifies as a "functional impairment" but somebody needs to translate that into text the insurance will acc...

She argues it's not and she's getting back up from their billing coordinator. It's like she is just trying to get out of helping me.

Re: In what way were you "functionally impaired"? Need help with an unhelpful office and insurance.

Most plans have fairly specific language outlining what their parameters are in their view. Have you gotten a copy of your plan's exclusion language as pertains to Orthognathic surgery? If so, mirror back to them their own words as you explain yourself. I also agree wholeheartedly with sirwired. Th...

Re: Implant vs Sliding Genioplasty vs Jaw Surgery?

I got a chin implant 10 years ago when what I really needed was jaw surgery. Now the implant is eating away the bone underneath (seriously - implants will eventually recede into the bone) and I have to get the jaw surgery I needed PLUS remove the implant and hope my chin is okay underneath to perfor...

Re: What reasons has your insurance given for denials?

The funny thing is, the surgeon I'm seeing is literally the best in my part of the country. People drive hours and come in from out of state to see him. His administrative staff (a lot of whom are new due to turnover) are pretty awful. Specifically just her. I think I need to work with someone else ...

In what way were you "functionally impaired"? Need help with an unhelpful office and insurance.

Ugh. I am still trying to obtain approval for my surgery from insurance (widen/shorten upper jaw, length lower jaw, remove chin implant which is eroding my bone and lengthen chin). I got rejected the first time in writing. Then I was rejected after my doctor did a peer-to-peer with the insurance com...
