Re: Professionals with braces: thoughts or concerns?

I'm going to go against the grain and say no, it's not all plain sailing. I am in the UK, so we don't have the same approach to orthodontics as our American friends. I am 40 and have full metal braces. People do notice, many pretend not to but you know they've clocked them. After a while it doesn't ...

Brace Lows - come join my pity party

I'm now 4 months or so into my braces (metal Damon) with probably another 20 months to go... I had been feeling mostly positive about the whole thing and getting used to people's reactions. I've seen most of my friends now and even braved a wedding with people I haven't seen for years. In fact I was...

Re: Apprehensive Newbie getting braces tomorrow!

I too feel like I am always having to justify my desicion to get braces. Sometimes when people ask why I have braces I am tempted to answer that it is because I have a metal fetish or that I'm hoping to get ID'd buying booze. In fact I did get ID'd last week in Marks and Spencer but then the guy on ...

Food - what are you eating (or not)?

So I've been in Damon braces for about 4 weeks now and slowly getting the hang of what I can and can't eat; especially in public... At home its easy enough to retreat to the bathroom for a wee clean-up with the old Water Pik (my bessie mate). However in public its a different story all together. One...

Re: Typical NHS Waiting Times - Almost 2 Years And Counting...

Hi there I have just got braces on the NHS in Edinburgh. (I declined the jaw surgery route.) My waiting time from initial referral by my dentist was about 4 months to getting braced and that was influenced by my limited availability due to work/kids. I am being treated at Lauriston Place Dental Hosp...

Re: Apprehensive Newbie getting braces tomorrow!

Sorry for the radio silence; been very busy with work... So it's now been over two weeks with the braces and only another 102 weeks or so left to go! On the whole I'm finding it all 'okay'. Some days are better than others. I thought the braces had settled in nicely and I'd gotten through the ibupro...

Face Ache

I have had my Damon braces all of, ooh, a week now and am gradually getting used to all the fun pain and side-effects. I've circumnavigated the torn up cheeks, funny talking and sore teeth but noticed in the last few days a pain in my face. Specifically an ache of my upper cheekbones under the eyes,...

Re: Apprehensive Newbie getting braces tomorrow!

It is done... IMG_20160120_203306_20160121222124896.jpg The big day has been and gone and I am now officially braced up. A full on Metal Micky! I have been feeling sore, elated, embarrassed, proud and silly all in the space of the last 24 hours. I got Damon 2s on the top and bottom and initially it ...

Re: Apprehensive Newbie getting braces tomorrow!

So I am in the waiting room at the hospital fighting the urge to up sticks and run away. I have a good 25 years on the other people here! Filled with foreboding...

I'm a coeliac too and it never even occurred to me. I guess it would depend on your sensitivity to gluten, whether there is any present and if you ingest any or not...
