Re: triangle shape spaces between some teeth?
As my teeth are straightening out after being crowded I am also getting black triangles. My ortho said this is very common when the teeth were crowded and more often with adults. He plans to do some IPR on my next visit which will file the teeth slightly, and then he will allow the archwire and powe...

Re: extraction or protruding teeth?
I have crowding and an overbite and chose to get the extractions. I know there are negative stories on the internet about extractions but I think that is because people usually use the internet to vent not praise. All of the people who had great results with extractions would not feel the need to po...

Re: How long do the holes from extractions take to heal?
I had my extractions done on 12/19 and the wire placed back through my brackets on 12/21. I did not find the extractions to be a difficult precedure and honestly I was really excited to get the wire on so the teeth could start moving! The extractions only took about 20 minutes once I was numbed. The...

Got my extractions done!
So I went and had 3 extractions done yesterday as part of my ortho plan. Originally the plan was extract 4 teeth but after having braces on for 2 months my ortho re-evaluated my teeth and said only 3 would be necessary. The extractions themselves were quickly done and did not cause any pain. The mos...

Re: How am i suppose to survive with those spacers?
Those are sometimes called molar build ups. I currently have them. The good news is you will get used to them within a couple of weeks. I learned how to chew with them and they do wear down after awhile. How long you will need them is case dependent so you could always ask your ortho for an estimate...

Re: Extracting 4 bicuspids?
Kararenee, my ortho told me exactly the same thing. He assured me my profile would not change and if it would it would be minimal. However it has been drastic. Once the teeth are extracted there is no going back from this and its a big risk to take. If you can find an ortho who will perform your tr...

Re: Weight loss
Pasta was a lifesaver for me starting out!!!! Even thin pasta like spaghetti worked as long as you cut it into bite size. I ate a ton of pasta and mashed potatoes when I first got braces.

Re: Extracting 4 bicuspids?
Hi Jodyxlee, I had bicuspid extractions and the results of my treatment have been devastating, I have a narrow smile, dished in profile and loss of lip support. Please get a second opinion. Bicuspid extractions are almost always avoidable. The last line is simply not true. Extractions are most defi...

Re: Will tooth extraction ruin my face?
Can't you pull the remaining teeth forward versus backwards? I imagine that would help one's profile. Also, I will be getting extractions in December as part of my treatment and my ortho has assured me that he has taken any possible facial changes into consideration. Due to the angle of my teeth and...

Re: Braces advice for 20 year old.
I do not know the answers to all of your questions but I do know that yes sometimes treatment plans can take longer than originally estimated. In the US it is very unlikely that you can easily switch orthos in the middle of treatment atleast not for the same price as the new ortho would need to quot...

Re: Got braces put on without fixing cavities (long post)
I do not personally think it is an ortho's job to tell you to get cavities taken care of as dentists are the ones who deal with cavities. My ortho simply asked if I had been to my dentist recently and if my dentist said my teeth were in good shape to get braces. Some orthos seem to detail treatment ...

Extractions
Sooo I was supposed to have 4 extractions done yesterday as a part of my ortho plan but I chickened out. I ended up meeting with my ortho and he put my worries at ease for the most part. I now have the extractions scheduled for Dec. 19. Looking on the internet obviously shows people that are unhappy...

Vertigo
I had my upper braces placed on 10/6 without any problems. On Saturday though I experienced several episodes of vertigo which I have never had before. I noticed last night that I kept waking up to my teeth clenching which is not normal for me. I am guesing that is what has caused the vertigo. I curr...

Re: when did you realize you wanted to get your smile fixed?
I have wanted my teeth fixed since I was a kid but my parents could not afford them. I realized that the time to get braces was now because I will be getting married in 22 months. I want to feel confident that day and actually enjoy getting pictures taken for once.
