Re: They're coming at me with sharp things...
Well done on getting through it TeeBee! I had a frenectomy (for all the good it did! :? ) when I was about 16, and was absolutely terrified before going (and I don't really have a dental phobia or anything). But, as you've found, once they have you numbed up, it's actually not half as bad as you'd e...

Re: 6 month smile braces today!
Progress already avngal, great to hear
I'm glad the wax is helping, it can be so tricky to get it to stay on sometimes.
I initially tried to avoid using wax because I wanted my cheeks to get used to the braces and didn't want to grow dependent on it, but sometimes you really do need it!

Re: Overcoming phobia for a pretty smile :)
I did look into 6MS but the orthodontist felt I had too many other issues for it to have realistic results. I have an overbite a horse would be proud of for starters  :D In the end I thought 'if I'm going to go to the bother of doing all this, I may as well do it right'. I didn't want to fix ...

Re: 34 y/o female putting dental phobia aside and getting braces
Seems to be the time for us 30 somethings :) I'm 33 and I got my bottom braces and upper biteplate on about 7 weeks ago. I'll be getting upper braces hopefully next month sometime. I can't say it's been easy but I'm still glad I did it. I'd be a bit happier if I could get used to the horrible bitepl...

Re: Had my awful TPA taken out one day after that out it in
Ouch! What an awful experience for your first day in braces. You did exactly the right thing going back to the ortho, some pain may be expected but not shredding up your tongue! You would think that if they 'have a problem with the lab not making them right', that they would double and triple check ...

Re: 6 month smile braces today!
Congratulations avngal, both on the cancer front and on starting your braces journey! I have the utmost respect for anyone who has survived cancer. I also did the braces as a kid, don't wear the retainer, back to square 1, kicking self! I had a half hearted attempt to resolve things in my mid 20s, w...

Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?
I have metal on the bottom and was debating getting ceramics on the top when I get them, but I've decided against it. One reason was the additional cost, but the main reason, which will sound odd, but to me, ceramic braces look a bit strange / attract more scrutiny. What I mean by that is when I see...

Re: Wireless Waterpiks?!
This is a useful topic, I'd meaning to look into Waterpiks but didn't even know wireless ones existed! Much more convenient. I haven't needed one so badly yet because I only have my bottom brace so far and a (removable) biteplate, but I imagine cleaning will get much trickier when I get my top brace...

Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?
I got mine about 7 weeks ago at age 33. I've been pontificating and debating about it for the past few years, I wish I'd done it then because I'd be finished by now! :)

Re: Quad helix
Ask the orthodontist, you're paying for this after all!
I just googled the quad helix as well, looks like a bit of a mouthful!

Bite plate experiences
Hello fellow brace sufferers! This is my first post, sorry for the abrupt introduction, I'm a bit fed up with my braces, as I'm sure many who come here are! I'm 33 years old and have lower metal braces and an upper removable biteplate, which I've had for about 6 weeks now. The reason I'm posting her...
