Re: Surgery COMPLICATIONS! two surgeries 4 days apart!
My original surgeon did not do my revision - and apparently I may not have been using the word revision properly? I think orthognathic surgeons take that to mean redoing your whole jaw surgery. I instead had a plastic surgeon attempt to fix some of the aesthetic things that were wrong with my face a...

Re: Small upper lip after surgery?
Same thing happened to me. Along with a bunch of vertical lines across my top lip that appeared immediately after surgery and never have gone away. THey're somehow related to how my lip is positioned, or how I use it, but I could never get a straight answer from the surgeon about what exactly he did...

Eye Floaters after Surgery?
I noticed right after my surgery that I had a couple of dark spots in my vision in my right eye, that were not there previously. I'm now at 16 months after surgery and I still have one large-ish spot in my vision that is mainly annoying when trying to read on a white computer screen. Has anyone else...

Re: Surgery COMPLICATIONS! two surgeries 4 days apart!
Hi fixmenow, how's everything coming along? Sounds like you've gone out a bit (eyebrows - so brave! i wasn't letting anyone near my face that early!) and are continuing to heal. That's great! The good thing about it being winter is that you can always wrap yourself up in a scarf if you really don't ...

Re: Surgery COMPLICATIONS! two surgeries 4 days apart!
It gets better! Really, it does. It's normal to be a bit down. Are you still at home recovering or have you started to venture out? Have you been taking any supplements/making sure you're getting a lot of nutritious food? I think those have both really helped in my recovery. I looked into which vita...

Re: Reversing sliding genioplasty
I wouldn't say mine was reversed exactly, but 16 months after my double jaw surgery, I've now had my chin shortened and the fat pad resuspended. My face looked much longer after the lefort 1, bsso and genio, and my chin in particular looked long and flat. Having the extra length on my chin also pull...

Re: Asymmetrical Jaw
I had (have) asymmetry in my jaw and had double jaw surgery. However, my asymmetry was due to underlying bone asymmetry, not necessarily soft tissue or muscles. I had a pretty skilled ortho back in high school who managed to make my teeth look straight and centered in a very crooked jaw. Unfortunate...

Re: Orthognathic surgery in Toronto
Hi nqrse, It sounds like I had a similar issue to you - my condyle was slowly disappearing, shorter on one side, facial asymmetry, etc. I got surgery a year and 3 months ago to fix it (though not in Canada). I was a "difficult" case as well, and my story is long, but to give some quick adv...

Re: Anyone who needs jaw surgery but did not opt for it
I'm not sure what a flower professional flute player is.... But I will say that I played flute as a child and now, following surgery, I can't whistle and I'm fairly certain I wouldn't be able to play either. My lips are not the same as before surgery, they look different and also function differentl...

Re: Is it safe to fly 14 hours 4 weeks post-op?
I flew that distance about 7 weeks after, and I was fine, but you'll want to be sure to tell them at check in and ask if you can have a seat where people are less likely to accidentally knock your face while walking by or putting luggage up. They were very accommodating for me.

Re: Stiff mouth and wonky bottom lip after sliding genioplasty?
I'm in a similar situation. I'm six months post double jaw and siding genio, at the point where the majority of swelling is gone, and I'm a bit upset at how things have turned out cosmetically. Functionally, i can breathe much better, and the position of my tongue and bite is much improved. BUT my f...

Re: Post surgery and recovery; a few tips and looking back. Add your own!
Nozzelnut's post was helpful for me during my own recovery, so thought I'd add a bit myself. I'm only a month post-op, but definitely over the recovery hump. Despite reading up on recovery on here and lots of blogs, there were still a number of things that surprised me, so thought this would be a go...

Re: Positive Jaw Surgery Results?
I had double jaw surgery and a genioplasty about 4 weeks ago, and so far am very happy with how things are going. I had asymmetry in my mandible - no idea what caused it, maybe it was genetic or maybe I fell off my bike as a child, maybe from early orthodontic treatment. So for me, in addition to th...

Re: August/September surgery buddies
At (nearly) 4 weeks post op I can only open my mouth about 1 finger's width. Jealous of those of you who can open more! I'm supposed to be on a liquid-only diet for 6 weeks, but have been going a bit crazy, so adding some non-chew soft foods that I can swallow whole. The baby spoons made from silico...

Re: has anyone had a repeat BSSO after having a relapse?
I had condylar resorption (though only on one side) prior to double jaw surgery and my surgeon says I will need to take care of my jaw joints for the rest of my life. This seems to mean using a splint at night (this will come later, currently less than two weeks out from surgery now) as well as also...
