Re: Pros and cons of different types of braces

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Of course, I will talk to my new ortho but it's not until the 16th of next month and I am eager to get back SPAM SPAM SPAMMING.... Couple of questions: I heard that ceramic takes longer to move the teeth and are more likely to slip? I also heard they break easily? H...

Pros and cons of different types of braces

As some of you know I had to have my metal braces removed yesterday due to a nickel allergy :( I have selected a new, board certified ortho who offers a variety of options 1. Gold 2. Ceramic 3. Metal braces that contain NO nickel. Now I am getting a braces redo, I get to make a whole new decision. C...

Re: Swollen tongue misery / any tips?

My husband went into major anaphylactic shock randomly one day. He nearly died. We were eating fish for the umpteenth time. Food allergies are crazy. Now he has an epi pen and we have to worry every time we eat out. I feel your pain. My doctor said that Benadryl doesn't really work for nickel allerg...

Re: Swollen tongue misery / any tips?

When I think of gold braces I had a funny image of me having this huge gold grill! Thanks for the laugh!

There are options for metal braces that don't have the nickel. There is always ceramic as well. The new ortho says he has a few options for me :)

Re: Swollen tongue misery / any tips?

Thank you all for your support. Thankfully I was able to get into a doctor today who did not just dismiss me. I am sad to be missing my braces but glad that the problem is being solved. This new ortho is apparently very good has lots of reviews and is board certified. I have to wait until Sept-17th ...

Re: Swollen tongue misery / any tips?

Well, I got into see my doctor today and now my braces have been removed. I had a severe nickel allergy. He did a urine test but also held a nickel up to my arm for 10 minutes and I had a painful reaction. I am being referred to an allergist and will have a referral to a new ortho.

Re: Swollen tongue misery / any tips?

I wish, but we're military so I HAVE to get a referral before I can go anywhere. They are some great tips, thank you. I will do that because I would like to sleep! If I can identify the problem prior to my next appointment with the dentist it would be a relief. Thank you so much for everything, you'...

Re: Swollen tongue misery / any tips?

Hey :) I ended up going to the urgent care because I couldn't swallow and I started to have a panic attack which made everything way worse, so my husband grabbed me and took to me to the doctor. They took one look at my hysterical ass and pumped me with a ton of Benadryl (to calm me down I think!) a...

Re: a post about how much (or really how little) people notice when you get braces

I didn't tell anyone except my husband I was getting braces, figured people either would or would not notice. I had a job interview the other day. There were 4 people in the room and one of them kept staring at my braces. They asked me of a time I had been brave. In a joking way I said, well.... I g...

Re: How long does everyone brush their teeth for?

I love my waterpick. I use it after I floss (I rinse, brush, floss, waterpick) and sometimes throughout the day just to help feel a bit fresher.

Re: anybody ever feel like they should be feeling more pain?

I haven't had as much pain as I thought. My tongue did swell due to an allergic reaction to something when they put my braces on and now I have to take Benadryl and that was painful, but as far as actual brace pain...No. When I do get a bit of pain it's from the rubbing and I pop some wax on and it'...

Re: Swollen tongue misery / any tips?

I called the dentist and they were going to try and get me in, but they couldn't. So they told me to take Benadryl and see if that makes things better. I took some a minute ago, I shall see if it works. I hope it does. My teeth feel like they are twitching really badly today as well. My dentist said...

I can eat dunked hobnobs. It takes a little longer to get the dunk right and you have to rush before it crumbles into the tea, but if you can do it, it's a slice of heaven.

Swollen tongue misery / any tips?

Since getting all my braces on the upper teeth (still no lower) on Tuesday, my tongue has been swollen and won't fit inside my mouth. It's now all scalloped and painful. I can't sleep at night because of that and the constant salivation... I will eventually find a way to hold my jaw so my tongue fee...
