Re: Has Anyone had Plate Removal?
Had pre-op today and surgeon pretty much told me not to have the plates removed so we cancelled surgery. She said none of my symptoms will be relieved from having them removed, and I'll just have to deal with them for the rest of my life sadly. Super disappointed and frustrated but I guess that's a ...

Sensitive Teeth & Numb Gums
Most of the feeling has come back on my face, bottom lip still feels a bit numb but I have a degree of feeling back. My gums however are still completely numb (double jaw surgery on Oct 5, 2015) and recently my teeth have become pretty sensitive. I went to the dentist and he couldn't see anything th...

Re: After how long you regained feeling in the lower lip?
I'm almost 5 months post op and I am still numb in my gums and fairly numb in bottom lip/chin, but I have more feeling than I did right after surgery. I suspect I'll regain full feeling it will just take some time. Small improvements every week that don't feel noticeable at the time, but then you lo...

Re: How long after surgery was it before you didn't think about biting into food?
I'm almost 5 months post surgery, I'll be getting my braces off in a few weeks. I'm eating more but still not eating crunchy things. Ice Cream is even a bit weird because of how cold it is.. not really sure why that bothers me. I'm still doing opening jaw exercises too, not sure when that stops.

Re: Has Anyone had Plate Removal?
I'm getting 2 of my 6 plates removed on April 14, which will bring me 6 months post surgery. Left side of my face is way more stiff, still more puffy than right side. I can't chew on the left side. So I'll let you know how the plate removal goes and hopefully those problems will be resolved afterwar...

Re: For how long have you been housebound after surgery?
I went to Disney World and Universal at the 4 week mark, but couldn't do 12 hour days because I was just tired and had lots of random pains. I returned to work at about 5 weeks, but I don't have to talk much if at at all for my job. I cannot imagine going into a work situation where I had to deal wi...

Re: Has Anyone had Plate Removal?
If anyone has had their plates removed , did it help with swelling ? and how long were you swollen again for ? I'm three months into my recovery and still have my plates, but I meet with the surgeon next week and am going to ask for them to be removed. When I touch my cheek I can feel pressure hori...

Re: How long did everyone have braces before surgery
Its been about 2 years for me. Who knows how long it will be post surgery. I keep telling myself it will all be worth it in the end.

Re: Has Anyone had Plate Removal?
Since I can feel one of my plates through my skin I was told I can schedule the plate removal surgery at a later date if I wanted to. Not sure that it would be worth it if it's another major surgery though. I'd also like to hear feedback from others who have gotten it done.

Re: Burning Feeling & Small Bump
Surgeon confirmed that it's the plate I was feeling  But I guess it's not a huge deal, just a bit gross to touch. She also said burning feeling is a symptom that I'm getting sensation again. Well I guess overall a good visit today. Crazy how many different things we go through during recovery.

Re: Pain Around Plates & Screws - No Infection
Not sure if this is the same but I had surgery Oct 5 and have sharp pains that only last maybe a second, sometimes they come and go and sometimes it just one sharp pain. They SEEM to be in the areas where my jaw was cut but I honestly have no clue since I'm not 100% sure where they put the plates. T...

Burning Feeling & Small Bump
Oct 5 double jaw and chin surgery. Two separate things I've noticed (I'm seeing the surgeon tomorrow). My lips feel like they're on fire. Similar to how they feel in the winter when they're chapped. Except they're not chapped. Has anyone else had this feeling before? I had this feeling on my cheeks ...

Jaw Clicking/Pain when moving?
It's been 2 weeks since I've had double jaw & genioplasty surgery, most except 2 elastics have been taken off and the splint has been removed earlier today. Now I have pain when I move my head a certain way, I feel the pain on my left side jaw. It almost feels like it needs to be clicked/snapped...

Re: Vacation 20 days after surgery
[quote="EWUgal15"]I think the kind of surgery makes a difference too...double jaw vs upper/lower only. I am scheduled for lower only and was told I only need 7-10 days for initial recovery and to work part time after that because I'll feel tired. I went to Universal Islands of Adventure in...

Vacation 20 days after surgery
Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place for this but I had a quick question. I have surgery Oct 5 (yay, only a few more days!), and the doctor performing the surgery and the anesthetist both said I should be good to go to Florida 20 days after the day of surgery (I will be flying out Oct 25), my...
