Re: still suffering from depression/regret after jaw surgery - advice?

If you couldn't breath through your nose, had poor breathing during sleep (sleep apnea which kills you!!!) and high blood pressure, and now all these things are gone after surgery, that's called a success.

Re: Sliding genioplasty vs chin implant nerve damage

I don't know about permanent nerve damage but I definitely had a good amount of pain in my chin about two months after surgery as the nerves began to come back. At 4 months, my chin is still fairly numb, but I'm not sure if this is related to the lower jaw movement or the sliding genioplasty. Does ...

Re: Changing your whole "look" post-op

Hey guys its great that surgery improved your looks!!! What did you have done? What was the functional reasons for jaw surgery? Were the aesthetic benefits a bonus or the reason for surgery? I have sleep apnea which is caused by narrow arches, and recessed jaws so an MMA double jaw advancement shoul...

Re: Nerve Pain! Help!

OH OK thanks. Its good to know that at the very least there is something that will dull the pain. Its a shame that so many medications have such undesirable side effects. What did you have surgery for? Was it an advancement or a reduction for an underbite? How did you get up the courage to go throug...

Re: Nerve Pain! Help!

I had jaw surgery on my lower jaw on March 17th. As for recovery everything is going great and I couldn't be happier with the results... but I'm in agony over the nerve pain in my chin. I know it's a good sign that I will get feeling back in the area, but I'm taking ibuprofen pretty much every 6 ho...

Re: Alternatives to jaw surgery

How did that TMJ appliance for your lower jaw work out for you? I've read some great things about appliance and splints being used to reposition the jaw and while some people say it worked great for them, others have said it made things worse on their joints.

Re: Jaw surgery require TMJ surgery at the same time?

Jaw surgery (like BSSO) can be considered experimental treatment for relief of TMJ disorders, but, typically speaking, BSSO does not require any operation on the actual temporomandibular joint. In my case, the clicking and locking I had in my TMJs got better after surgery and hasn't been a problem ...

Re: Summer 2016 Surgery Buds

It was rough and I went into acute respiratory failure What is that and did it happen while you were awake? and they almost didn't intubate on time due to congenital issues on my palate so I had a breathing tube for a couple of days and they kept me under anesthesia. What is the difference between ...

Re: SARPE vs LeFort I

What about the aesthetics of a multi-segment LF1 VS SARPE? Some articles I read said SARPE has more of an effect on the cheekbones (a desirable effect) and SARPE might do more in terms of opening up the nasal passages if you have trouble breathing. You can also get more expansion with SAPRE than wit...

Re: DEVASTATED - Just Told I Require Full Revision of Bi-Max Surgery

I also wanted to add that, my chin and bottom lip are still almost completely numb, ten months after my last surgery. Now because of this, my surgeon has told me that after this revision surgery it will take at least 24 months to recover any feeling in that area IF I DO AT ALL, as the nerves will b...

Re: Terrified

So my surgery is coming up August 5th and I'm just absolutely terrified that I'm going to have awful results or painful nerve damage. I'm so so scared. I had my tonsils out a year and a half ago and it was painful as hell but I healed beautifully. I'm assuming it will be the same this time. I am 28...

Re: Second surgery finished..Late to the party!

You seem to take this surgery pretty easy. Some people say its the hardest 3 weeks of their life post-op do you agree? Is it hard to breath? How is your numbness? To be honest the hardest part is the whole diet and keeping busy. The first few days were rough but as for breathing while in the hospit...

Re: Is this right - Gunson/Arnett

P.S. It is now well-known that the approach my dentist used as a child to treat me (eventually pulling teeth to make room) is the exact wrong approach to use and causes the entire jaw/teeth to fall inward, substantially worsening any sleep apnea problems that someone might be prone to have due to a...
