Re: Purely Aesthetic Gum Contouring After Braces/Surgery

I just had a consultation for crown enhancement, and my periodontist is going to do the surgery prior to my double jaw surgery planned later this year. Mine is primarily for esthetic reasons, although I think everyone has some level of functional improvement with crown enhancement as this helps to e...

Re: Wisdom Teeth Removal - is it necessary?

I was also told by both my ortho and oral/maxillofacial surgeon that my wisdom teeth needed to come out at least 6 months before I could get the double jaw surgery done, so this is a common direction.

Re: Impacted Wisdom tooth Extraction with Braces?

I had both impacted upper wisdom teeth extracted in November, and didn't have any issues despite having my other molars banded. I think I was really lucky with my wisdom teeth extraction as I had essentially no pain, and went back to work the very next day (I could have gone to work a few hours afte...

Re: orthodontic treatment in another city

@Jay3192, I'm in the process of transferring orthodontic care due to moving across the country. It's kinda a pain, but I've met a couple good orthodontists in the Chicago area for consultations, and have started to meet Oral/Maxillofacial Surgeons to get ready for double jaw surgery later this year....

Re: SARPE Surgery

HI All! I had my SARPE on 4/23/15, and felt that recovery was overall pretty easy; I went back to work after a week. I only really struggled with speaking for a couple weeks (mostly due to the appliance), and the obvious swelling that took a couple weeks to go down. I had very little pain, and took ...

Re: SARPE Surgery

I had my SARPE surgery done on 4/23/15, and had to do 26 turns, so 6.5mm. I've had my braces since 7/8/15, and we started closing the rest of my gap with my most recent ortho appointment. Sounds like I have only one more wire after this one for my braces before I'm on the finishing wire, and then wi...

Re: what do/did you hate the most at parts of your treatment?

The expander is a pain! I'm mostly used to it after having it in for 8 months now, but food gets stuck in it. For example, edamame--took me forever to get enough "suction" to get the edamame out from above the expander, then practically choked on the bean when it did get dislodged.

Re: Questions about Dr. Kim in San Marcos, CA

I know this is a few years after your post, but in case anyone else is considering Dr. Alexander Kim, I have to give my whole-hearted recommendation of him. He did my SARPE on 4/23/15, and I was very happy with him. At my first visit with him, he took a long time to explain what needed to be done to...

Re: Southern California Kaiser Surgeon

I used Dr. Alexander Kim in San Marcos for my SARPE, and absolutely adore him...he's going to be doing my double jaw as well. He was very thorough, and made sure I was comfortable with every plan they have for addressing my screwed up jaw (my term of endearment for my jaw, not his). I can't say enou...
