This. I am so glad to have braces at a time in my life where I can cheaply and legally obtain alcoholic beverages.

I'm just over 2 months in and my bottom canine finally stopped hitting my top bicuspid 2 weeks ago! There is hope for you! ;)

Re: how is it that my TMJ problems seemed to have disappeared without having done anything about it?

I have had tmj problems on and off for what seems to be the last 6 or so years (honestly I don't remember further back, as terrible as that is…), and it's because I have both a gap from an impacted canine, and a bad bite (overbite, overjet, top and bottom teeth that don't fit together at all). The w...

Re: When did your braces stop feeling "bulky"?

I'm 5 weeks in, and I feel like my brain is finally starting to tune them out. They still scrape the inside of my upper lip if I talk or smile or laugh too much, but I don't notice them at all when my mouth is "at rest."

Re: Just curious about everyone's treatment cost

My total cost is 4400€, 100% out of pocket. I could have saved myself 250€ by opting for metal braces instead of ceramic, but vanity got the better of me, and since I already pretty much look like I'm 16, I wanted to avoid looking even younger as much as possible.

Re: Braces - US or UK?

Where do you plan on living for the duration of your treatment? Considering the monthly visits, not to mention potential problems (loose brackets, broken wires, etc) or concerns that can arise, I would much rather have my orthodontist close by for peace of mind. For me, that would really be the deci...

Re: When did you notice change?

I started to notice changes about 2-3 weeks in from comparing the angles of the archwire with the angles in the picture I took the first day, but my teeth themselves don't really look any straighter yet. Around week 2, I could see a small gap (maybe half a millimeter) had formed between my two front...

Thanks for the reassurance! I feel like I'm a tough cookie when it comes to pain normally, but anything mouth/teeth related squicks me out. :FeelSick: How long did it take for them to more or less heal up?

Re: Worst foods to eat with braces

Soft white bread is definitely a huge pain since it gets stuck everywhere. I've managed to eat a burger twice, but the last time my front teeth hurt for two days afterwards, though I've heard it can take a long time for the front teeth to adjust for some people, so I'm not giving up hope yet. I'm fi...

Any other singers here?

I sing in a choir and it's been really hard for me to articulate while singing with braces. I have ceramic, self-ligating brackets (no idea what brand my orthodontist uses), only on my top teeth for now, and while I feel like I've more or less adjusted to talking with them (though I still have the t...

Re: Hi

Ooh, I'm also going to have to get some bicuspids pulled at some point in the near future. What was it like after the extraction? I've never had an adult tooth pulled, so I'm curious about pain and aftercare.

Re: What kind of lip balm do you use?

I've been using straight-up Vaseline from since so far I've had a hard time using anything in stick form (*sigh* Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm, we will meet again some day). You can buy it in a tube here, which is perfect for carrying it around in my bag.
