Re: recessed chin what to do?

Hey thanks for the further replies. Sorry for the delayed response coz I've been trying to take a break from this for a few days to clear my head so therefore didn't visit the forum. Those before and after results without any surgery looks amazing. I think my next step is to have my braces removed a...

Re: recessed chin what to do?

Honestly, I agree with your surgeon and ortho. I also feel it's better to do nothing. After looking at your photos, I also think that your chin isn't that recessed to warrant all that work and risks that comes with it. Your profile really looks normal to me. Hey thank you very much that has made me...

Re: recessed chin what to do?

Just got back from the maxillofacial department... He gave me 3 options and his opinion on those options... 1) Do nothing and go ahead with the de-bond of my braces next week This was his preferred option for me 2) Get a Genioplasty but he thinks that my braces are causing my lower lip to flare out ...

Re: Unbearable tightness in chin

This is shocking. I am going to see an orthodontist at the maxillofacial department tomorrow to discuss options to fix my recessed chin. One of the options I have in mind is a genioplasty but if this kind of nerve damage is quite common then I don't want to risk it.

Re: recessed chin what to do?

Hi there Thank you so much for replying to my thread. I only just seen the reply now as initially I got no replies. In answer to your question...I had 2 upper pre molars extracted and gaps closed over 3 years. The picture I posted is only about 2 moths ago when the gaps were closed. I am due to have...

recessed chin what to do?

Hi I am 30yo and currently been wearing braces for nearly 3 years. I had a 9mm overjet and was given two options: 1)extract two upper pre-molars 2) upper and lower jaw surgery I opted for option 1 at the time as I was scared of jaw surgery and my overjet was bothering me more than my chin which I di...

Re: Reconsidering Jaw Surgery - is it too late?

Thanks for the update! I am so happy to hear that your treatment is going so well and the improvements to your profile. I ended up talking to my orthodontist over the phone and he seemed very calm and cheerful when I asked about switching to surgery, like it was no big deal. He said I may need bridg...

Re: I am a coward!

This is totally understandable. I am considering surgery after deciding not to go the surgery route. I keep changing my mind nearly everyday!
I'm sure your doctor/orthodontist will work this out with you. Atleast you have more time to think it over now that its been cancelled. Best of luck!

Re: Consultation with a ortho or surgeon?

I am just a bit concerned about the othor at the hospital. He did my teeth when I was younger and about 6 years ago I went for a consult about my over jet. He recommended extractions and didn't mention jaw surgery at all. So now that my current ortho has referred me to him again...I am feeling a bit...

Re: Consultation with a ortho or surgeon?

Cool thank you for the explanation. I'm my ortho knows what he's doing when referring me for surgery but I had just assumed it was a surgeon. Thanks again

Consultation with a ortho or surgeon?

I spoke with my ortho about surgery so he's referred me to a hospital based ortho. I'm just a bit confused as I thought the consult should be with a maxilla facial surgeon rather than an ortho? I suppose this ortho is hospital based though and works alongside surgeons. Is this right? Btw in from the...

Re: overjet 9mm braces on for 6 months but considering chang

The orthodontist and surgeon agree on Bilateral Saggital Split Osteotomy (BSSO), which is lower jaw only. No genioplasty involved either. There are two doctors at my orthodontic practice...and one is the wife of my OMFS...so they are pretty well connected. I am very thankful to avoid having both ja...

Re: overjet 9mm braces on for 6 months but considering chang

Hey thank you so much for replying. Its good to hear you are getting your problems solved. For me I don't really feel that I have any TMJ issues. I can eat anything and never feel discomfort when chewing etc. One orthodontist just said that I have developed a way to open and close my jaw so it doesn...

Changing Orthodontists private patients - partial refunds?

Hi there Just wondering if anyone has ever changed Orthodontists during treatment? For a variety of reasons from moving location etc etc I am just wondering if you got a partial refund? I am in England and had to pay nearly £3000. I was wondering if I changed to a different orthodontist would he be ...
