Re: Broken Essix Retainer
I had the same thing happen to me except much earlier on in my treatment, and had to get new impressions done and was also disappointed! However it it's a hawley won't they be able to make minor adjustments still? And thanks for that info newbite, I had always wondered that. It's still too bad that ...

drinking alcohol and a few other questions
Hi everyone with the holidays approaching comes time with family and friends that I haven't been able to see for a while. What is the etiquette for drinking alcohol with retainers in 24/7? I have an essix for daytime and hawley for night. I have had this setup for about 7 weeks now. I also have an a...

Re: Teeth movement in retainers
It seems to fit ok, but there looks like there's a little warping going on at the bottom of the essix for that tooth only, which may be why my tooth is getting pushed up into the gums? When my essix is in it looks like everything is lined up properly so i don't understand. However since this post I'...

Re: "broken" essix retainer
Thank you for the words! It made me feel less anxious. I'm going to try to keep doing the routine that I was supposed to be doing and hopefully get in this week to get it checked out. I don't know much about teeth movement it was just frustrating seeing that tooth specifically go all out of sorts. I...

Re: Did any of you get braces/invisalign for mostly cosmetic reasons?
I really don't think it's all that uncommon. My dentist told me I didn't need braces, and I wasn't embarrassed to tell the orthodontist that I wanted braces purely for cosmetic reasons. He explained that it would also fix my bite so that was an added bonus. I've seen people who have had better teeth...

Re: Teeth movement in retainers
hmm. Just to add to this. It seems like this is only happening with my Essix, I woke up after having my hawleys in all night and they were fine, put my essix in, and now they are uneven again. Is it strange to have this happen?

Teeth movement in retainers
I'm newly into the retainer stage of my treatment (just 2 days) and have an Essix and a Hawley. I'm supposed to wear my Essix during the day and my Hawley at night which both combined are to be worn 22 hours/day. I'm starting to notice that despite this, my teeth are changing a little bit and it's m...

Re: Sports?
Thanks for the feedback! I'll check into the cost of getting a mouth guard made. I played ball hockey and it wasn't an issue, but for ice hockey and contact sports like that I figure I might need one.

Sports?
Hi All - I've always gotten great advice on here. I was a little rushed in the ortho office and didn't get to ask this question when I got my retainers this week - how come you can't wear an Essix retainer while playing sports? My initial feeling was that it could double as a mouth guard. I don't pl...

Re: Advice for Wearing Braces Back to Grad School
[quote="palm55"]All, I'm a late twenties graduate student undergoing orthodontic treatment. I'm going back to grad school this week and a bit unsure how to handle my new-ish braces. Most of my classmates haven't seen me with them. In general, my self-esteem has taken a hit wearing braces. ...

Travelling abroad
Hello everybody, I've made a travelling thread a year ago and now I have another question! Has anyone here travelled abroad (going to Europe from North America) with braces? Have any advice? Are public washrooms easily accessible in Europe? UK/France/Italy to be specific. I'll be gone for about 2-2....

Re: Wisdom teeth extraction and eating
Wow, thank you both for sharing your experiences. Nine weeks is a long time considering the amount of time that I'm here worried about. Thanks for the brushing, food, and rinsing suggestions also! Have little pain here on day 2 but hoping for a quick(ish) recovery.
All the best to you guys.

Wisdom teeth extraction and eating
Hi all, today I had my wisdom teeth removed (all 4) and have also had upper braces for ~6 months. I'm wondering how many of you have had your wisdom teeth removed while also being braced - I know this it not uncommon. However, I was told not to brush my teeth today, and maybe not until tomorrow nigh...

Newly braced - a few travelling concerns
Hey everyone. Nice to see a forum like this to get information and to hear from other people who are going through the same sorts of things! I just got my braces on June 10th, it's been a little bit of a mental battle so far as I'm used to snacking all day long and now I'm not doing that because I'm...
