Re: How are bite blocks removed?

Same way as composite is typically removed in other situations, using a burr on a drill.

Re: Why do they tell you not to eat nuts?

Brackets can break off, but what can more easily happen is the wire can get bent and also pulled out of the molar tubes.

Re: double elastics so teeth can move faster?

Movement was slow so my ortho said I could double them up and it worked. At first it felt like a lot of force and he said I might find it too uncomfortable but I got used to it.

Vertical cracks on incisors after bracket debonding

Both of my front upper incisors have vertical cracks their entire length after having my (ceramic) brackets debonded. My teeth certainly didn't have these prior to braces. I have attached a picture of one to illustrate but both have a similar crack. The cracks appear as if they are quite deep (not j...

Re: Found out I've been taken advantage of by a dentist

You say you went to the dentist to straighten the teeth and fix protrusion. Bear in mind that if you are being told you need 4 extractions that without them, aligning teeth is generally going to result in some protrusion. There is only so much space in an arch. One option to reduce protrusion somewh...

Re: Going out for meals?

Never saw this as a big issue. You can go to the washroom after the meal to check your braces. You can also carry a travel toothbrush.

Re: Ortho for cosmetic straightening

Ok just back from the ortho, who has said exactly the same as the 6MS, extract one of the front incisors, and then close the gap. The downside here is that she's said I need to have metal as there is less chance of damaging the crowns - I really really do not want metal. Out of interest, how did th...

Re: Ortho for cosmetic straightening

I suggest you consider very carefully the extraction and 6MS proposed plan you have in mind. It's good that you are visiting an ortho and, indeed, as Beckett suggests do mention the exact 6MS proposed treatment plan to her and hear her view. I don't think you should let shyness dictate your treatmen...

Re: Ortho for cosmetic straightening

You can't know how long an ortho would have you in braces for without asking. Tell the orthodontist what you are looking for and concerned about (e.g. time) and see if they are able to offer a treatment plan that meets your needs. Bear in mind to become a specialist orthodontist requires several yea...

Re: Problems getting an itemized receipt?

I got my permanent retainer placed on my bottom teeth today (woohoo - getting close to the end!). Congratulations. Can you tell me how your dentist prepped the inner tooth surfaces prior to bonding the retainer on? With a drill, a sandblaster, acid or nothing? With respect to your question, as alre...

Re: Is it OK to chew on one side?

Not specific to your situation but there was a published case of a steroid user who chewed on one side and the muscle on that side grew larger. Links below:

Re: Brackets keep popping off - losing my mind!

Presumably you're not chewing down on hard foods. A couple of things that can affect bracket adhesion include prep of the enamel prior to gluing them on and also the stiffness of the current wire (if the teeth aren't that straight yet and the wire is deformed the force on the brackets can be elevate...

It's glue. When your brackets are removed the glue will be removed, typically using a burr on a drill.

Re: URGENT HELP I GOT SCAMED

Are you with a specialist orthodontist or a dentist? As a lot of dentists offer Six Month Smiles. An orthodontist will have several years specialist training after qualifying as a dentist. So correcting some matters may be beyond some dentists' sphere of expertise. If he did tell you he would fix yo...
