if you don't have gaps, the power chain is usually to hold things in place. It is just so that new gaps don't open while you are getting treated. Hope this helps!

Wow....SO many replies! thanks so much for all of the comments. I have had braces for 18 months. But before this phase, i had a phase I. So that may explain why my treatment was so short. Thanks again.

hello all. I was just wondering if a retainer can close a small gap. i know that retainers are meant to hold the teeth in place..but what happens if you get a gap after your braces come off? Well...i went a day without my rubberbands and the gap is starting to close....i'm going to keep wearing my elastics though because i wan't to make a point at my ortho. lol

Well i'm getting my braces off soon....and i have a gap...i'm not to quick to go to the ortho and i was wondering if the gap can be closed with a retainer? Heres my post:

well i know it's not THAT big but i'm getting them off in a month so...i want everything perfect.

I think I'll just wait a week and if no change is made, then I will contact the ortho. Thanks for your help everyone.

Okay...so I got a debanding date yay! But I have a problem. I have a new gap. How could this happen? It seems that everytime i get new rubber bands...a new gap opens. But i also have a power chain. Don't worry about anything! People do have worse than an expander. I had an expander for quite a while and yes, you get used to it. Just keep it cool and wait it out. In the end everything will turn out just fine. Hope you get through your troubles.
