Re: RPE Adult I don't think it's working..help!

I started my braces journey at age 40, and my ortho used an RPE too. I didnt see much progress either until one morning about 3 weeks after it was placed. All of a sudden I got this feeling between my top front teeth like I was being stung by a bee. It lasted about 15 minutes and when I looked in th...

Re: Progress after only 5 weeks!

Hi, I am new here. I am considering adult palatal expansion too. How do I see your pics? It says "You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post." :( Hey sean, all you have to do is make sure you post a few more times. I think when you get to 7 posts, you will be a...

Re: Getting braces without doing lower jaw surgery?

I understand your hesitation! I had an edge to edge bite with very crooked teeth and my ortho mentioned jaw surgery too. I told him I wanted to try everything else and have that as a last resort. He started me on elastics from day 1, and just recently he celebrated with me the fact that the elastics...

Re: Bracket Repositioning--I snuck a pic with them off!

Thank you all! Yes Professor, I am thrilled...beyond thrilled. I cant believe that I may only have these on for 18 months, when I was preparing for twice as long. My ortho couldn't stress enough that it was my wearing the elastics that made the difference. It took a while but I finally have an overb...

Re: Bracket Repositioning--I snuck a pic with them off!

Beckyboo, surprisingly it did not hurt. The worst part was them scraping the old glue off to make a good surface for thenew bracket. It just sounds like nails scraping a chalkboard but it doesnt hurt! My sister also said it looked like a diamond on the front tooth! Haha.

Bracket Repositioning--I snuck a pic with them off!

Yesterday I went for a long visit, for which my ortho was going to do some filing of teeth and to reposition a bracket. I had no idea they were going to take off 7 brackets and reposition them! While I was waiting on the ortho to come see after the assistant removed them, I took out my phone and sna...

Thanks Sara. I guess this is a marathon and not a sprint! Good luck with your ortho, I hope you get answers.

Re: Bite reopens within an hour of removing elastics

Thank you for asking this question!! I have the same problem...my bite is perfect in the morning. I wear my elastics pretty much 24/7, taking them out only to eat. (I have box elastics and I cant open my mouth wide enough to bite if I dont take them out.) But within an hour, my bottom teeth are agai...

Re: Any advice on the TPA appliance?

No, I don't have to keep it in. My ortho said he wanted to keep it in for 3 months just to hold the expansion in place giving the teeth time enough to get settled. I dont know how I would feel if I had to leave it in for years!! But you do get used to it.

Re: Any advice on the TPA appliance?

It WILL get better, I promise! I have had mine in for 2 months now and there are only a few words I still cannot pronounce. The constant salvation is gone, thank goodness!! But I will be sooo glad to get this thing out once and for all!!

Thank you all so much. It is so nice to have people excited for you, as I showed this to my hubby and teenage children and all I got was a halfhearted "great...." from them! Haha

Re: Progress after only 5 weeks!

I have to also mention that my ortho told me at the beginning that it would be at least 6 months before he would put bottom braces on, so I was surprised when both top and bottoms went on at my appointment in January. There was an older visiting orthodontist in his office helping that day, and he to...

Progress after only 5 weeks!

I've decided to share this because I wanted other adults to know that the palate expander does work on us older folks! When I turned 40 last fall, I decided to treat myself to finally getting my teeth straight. The ortho told me it would be 3 years in braces and possibly a couple jaw surgeries. I to...

I remember that thread specifically because the original poster commented on what I had posted. She said she felt judged by everyone and was going to delete her profile. All that was left was our responses to the OP!

Re: Extraction Orthodontic Nightmare

I feel for you, I really do. But what's done is done now. You can't go back and change things, so why are you spending so much time focusing on what could have been? You may be harming your daughter still, by being so depressed and focused on this mistake that you are missing out on the good things ...
