Teeth Dreams

I've always had dreams about my teeth. Now since getting braces, the tooth dreams have changed. Last night was the strangest by far. I had a rawhide "glove" on my hand, and I decided to "brush" my teeth with it. I put the toothpaste on the glove and as I rubbed it over my top teeth, it knocked off a...

Re: Braces at 55

Loved reading about all the people my age having braces!! 53 and 2 months in....all metal. I am kind of wishing I had done ceramic on top (I saw a lady with those yesterday and I was immediately jealous!!) My ortho (who is way cool) said she'd do metal if she were me, because of the strength needed ...

Re: Crown from root canal - pain?

I had the EXACT same issue. They had a really tough time getting enough space between my teeth to get the bands on, but when they did manage to get it on the root canal/crowned molar it put me in the worst pain for 2 weeks. What I believe was causing it, tho has nothing to do with that tooth. The pr...

Re: cankersore cures?

I was having the same issue. I bot these things at Walgreens. They are basically a "patch" that goes over the sore....it actually sticks on like a band-aid and stays there. It lasts (eating, drinking and sleeping) over 24 hours, and it won't allow the bracket, or anything else to poke into what feel...

Re: Feels like tooth is gonna fall out of my head

I am having the shooting pains as well. Its basically one molar that was banded after 6 weeks of springs to create more space (spacers weren't enough). I can't drink anything room temp even, it's got to be warmed up. I feel like an older than old lady (heck, I am already 53!!) But since the banding ...

Re: Job Interviews & being a "mature" braces wearer

I'm 53, metal on both top and bottom. I regularly meet with people face to face. Not one person has said a word! Even close friends take a while to ask if I got braces....I deny it!! LOL. Most of the people I meet with who know me ask when....and how my teeth feel...others that I am meeting for the ...

Sore, sensitive tooth (teeth)......

I got my first adjustment at 6 weeks. Part of that included banding a tooth (#30) that there was not space to band before. I had "springs" on for the 6 weeks, and still almost not enough. The assistant placed a spacer while working on other things and then we actually got it banded. OUCH! Now that t...

Re: First "adjustment" Halloween ligs

Well if you think you *love* flossing now, just wait til the braces go on! Flossing is the best feeling ever! It seems as if 1/2 of everything you eat gets stuck in them. As far as my situation: one wire was poking, I was trying to get it to calm down and ended up loosening the band on my very back ...

Re: First "adjustment" Halloween ligs

No flossing with spacers sadly. I hated the spacers. The bands were a welcome relief but they chew up the inside if your mouth! For about 10 days. Good luck!

Re: First "adjustment" Halloween ligs

I wish I had the same experience. This is the most painful so far. My ortho was unable to band the bottom 2 molars, not the very back ones, but the ones in front of those. The spaces between my teeth were so tight I endured 2 weeks of spacers, then once the braces went on, I had springs attached to ...

Re: What do you feel....

First it was like how in the he-you-what am I ever going to get used to the feel of all this in my mouth...now its more like a tight hug (or Spanx) keeping everything together nicely. My teeth were sore after the 4th day (not much until then) today is Day 9 and I can almost eat anything - but cannot...

Re: Dry Mouth

Thanks for the info - it's good to know it is a temporary thing. I have been drinking water; I don't usually chew gum (sugarless or otherwise), so I am not really keen on starting that. I will see if it passes, and hopefully it does. My mouth seems to have adapted rather quickly (IMHO) since I only ...

Dry Mouth

I am 53, first time with braces and after the initial shock of send myself - I've grown rather fond of my metallic smile. However, I seem to have dry mouth ALOT - no matter how much water I drink. It seems to be worse when consuming wine (helps the adjustment to the new hardware). Is it me, or could...

Re: Spacers frustrations

I had white rubber spacers for 2 weeks. Putting one on, knocked off a crown - and after 2 weeks they were able to get bands on the uppers but only one of the lower molars. Had to endure another week of blue spacers. Finally the following week they put the brackets on and used springs (left 2 molars ...
