Re: open bite in DC

So I had a crossbite and an open bite. They fixed the cross bite with a rapid palatal expander that attached only to my first molars on top. That took about 8 months. Then the open bite was fixed with box elastics on my incisors/first pre molars on both sides. It closed up pretty fast but getting al...

Re: Should I get coloured bands?

Try hot pink. I couldn't even see it when I had it. Was my go to for the last 6 months or so.

My very last time I did the rainbow. It was ridiculous and stood out so much, but it was just for a few weeks.

Re: open bite in DC

Thanks, the funny thing is I think I was more self conscious when I just got them off than I was with the braces on lol.

But then the compliments roll in and it's not so bad :p

Re: open bite in DC

Alright, I generally don't post pictures of myself in public forums, but f it. I would have wanted to see examples back then myself. I had an open bite. I don't know exactly how big it was. It was in the front and up my right side. I was given the choice of surgery but declined it for the same reaso...

Re: Bands on the very back molars?

This happened to both me and my friend who recently had braces.

We both had to get bands on our 7's. It was to pull our 6's in line with the rest of our teeth. They sat further in. Honestly, it made no difference. I remember noticing it for like a few days then it was business as usual.

Re: Estimated time for braces

I was told 30 months. Coincidentally when mine come off in 1 month, it will have been exactly 30 months.

Yes, it sucks. But you will get used to it and hopefully you won't have it for too long.

Re: Wireless Waterpiks?!

I have both the wireless and the wired Waterpiks.

Wired is significantly better. It's more powerful, it's easier to fill with water, it's just better. I used my wireless one maybe twice before giving it away. It's not worth the money in my eyes.

Re: open bite, tads, braces no surgery

I'm in my 20s, I had an open bite in the front and down one side. I was told surgery would be the best way to fix it but braces could work. I've had my braces for 2 years now and it's completely closed up and my bite is basically perfect. I had to wear elastics like 75% of the time and I wore them v...

Re: Tightness of bite in the morning vs during the day?

Happened to me too, just give it time and it will start to stabilize.

Even now that I don't wear the vertical elastics my bite still feels more closed in the morning when I first wake up and feels more relaxed during the day.

Re: Bummed about back brackets

I had bands put on my back molars a couple months ago. It was fine. I just now have 8 bands instead of 4. No real difference in care/maintenance and not much more pain either. http://www.amazon.com/Glide-Threader-30-Count-Single-Use-Packets/dp/B001F51RBU I use these in combination with a waterpik. I...

Re: Is it OK to settle for less than perfect?

Maybe I'm nuts, but I want as close to perfect as possible. I shaved my front incisors down (they were getting too close to the opposite teeth anyway) and now my teeth are all uniform length. It looks a lot better. I don't think I'd be ok with spending all this money and then not having my bite be e...

It's not possible for me to smile with just my uppers, it looks really awkward and forced.

Re: Treatment decision: open bite, surgery recommended

Circling back on my post, I had my rubber bands (box configuration) off last week. I wore them for 6 months in all. My ortho wants to test the stability of my bite. In the ~6 or so days, my bite has moved a little, but it's not opening up. It's staying closed. They did however remove my powerchains ...

Re: First adjustment and no wires changed

I had the same wires for my first 2 adjustments. Then the each of the next 3 times I had wire changes but since then it's just been bends in my current wires for ~6 months.

I don't think that you can really read into wire changes too much, it'll come when you're ready.
