They're off!
Hi everyone, I once had a post up in my braces story part but I couldn't just keep it up to date.. but I got my braces off on Wednesday and wanted to post my pictures / thoughts. I got braced Sept 2013. I had traditional wires until July 2014 where I got switched to the robotic "suresmile"...

Re: Brackets on the second molars?
They tried to put on brackets on my top upper molars but I had issues with the bracket and wire - I now have bands on my top but still just brackets on the bottom.

Re: Elastics on braces
Just keep trying, you'll get used to it. I used to have to do it in front of mirror. Then I always used the camera on my phone. Now I can do it without even looking lol
WEAR YOUR ELASTICS. Not wearing them is only going to extend your time in braces.

Re: Fronth teeth become stable??
Everyone's teeth are different, it's impossible for us to know what your ortho is exactly working on and how long its going to take.
Ask your Ortho questions are your next appt!!

Re: Extractions?
Nope not everyone needs extractions. It just depends on your mouth and what your teeth look like.
I had to get a baby tooth removed to let the adult tooth behind it move forward. Extractions are super easy, they numb you up and take it out. It's not that big of a deal.

I dont think it would be any different from anything else. Retainers - possibly the bonded kind.

Re: Going down a wire size?
Everyones treatment is going to be different - everyones teeth move at different rate and start in a different position. I did not get my class II elastics until 6 months into my treatment. Even if this does extend your treatment time, I am sure it had to be done for whatever reason. I am pretty sur...

Re: Eating in braces....
I pretty much cut everything up into pieces now.
It's for two reasons - front teeth are pretty sensitive AND I don't like getting food stuck in my front teeth.
You can avoid a lot of stuff getting in there by cutting things into pieces.

Re: what do you think about my wisdom tooth?
I had all 4 of my impacted wisdom teeth taken out at the same time.
I took ibuprofen (and that's it, they did prescribe some painkillers but it was completely unnecessary) for 3 to 4 days.
I had swelling and some light bruising, but other than that, I had no issues.

Re: Wire over missing teeth
Yes, I am missing a premolar on the left side. It's gotten a lot better recently (about 5 months in) but I had to just take a lot of silicone wax and cover up the wire. It definitely helped.

Re: anyone had experience with sandpapered teeth?
I had some IPR done at my last adjustment. We did some between some teeth to get some more room, and then the ortho also did my front 4 teeth.
Painless and no sensitivity at all.

Re: Adjustment appointments
I'm in the USA and the assistants do most of the work. The ortho always comes in and checks everything, but then she goes off to another patient.

Re: Brackets on second molars
I got brackets on all my second molars when the braces went on. The wire didn't actually extend to them until my 2nd adjustment though.
However, I do now have molar bands on both top 2nd molars because the brackets wouldn't stay on.

Bridges are cheaper, until you have to replace them after a certain number of years.
