Re: elastic bands until snap?

Wow...I have not been instructed to change any bands, and I'm over a year and a half into my treatment. The ortho changes them every month when I go in, and I requested additional ones in case they snap since I live so far away (1.5 hours by train). I have changed them quite often but not every one....

Debracing soon - is it really better to wait?

I was on here alot in the beginning and now also nearing the end. I guess that having braces hasn't been that problematic for me, more like a Patience Game :gavel: :-+ my question is to those who are POST BRACES and now in the next stage, assuming there is another one, any advice on the virtues of w...

Re: Plackers Orthopick Flossers

Hate these. They could only get a limited area, and only some of the teeth. Better off using the threaders and tying one end of the floss onto it. It gets easier over time :D mostly because as your teeth straighten, you will know the joys of flossing with straight teeth!! Mine are coming off in the ...

Not about medicine in tubes, but one solution for canker sor

Canker sores are genetically predispositioned, and I have suffered through them since I was small. What I discovered a mere 5 years years ago (pre-braces) was that the amino acid L-Lysine, about 1,000-2,000 mg 3x a day right at the onset yielded results within 24 hours. They used to plague me for a ...

Re: elastics? Move teeth or jaw?

I believe they're supposed to correct the bite, but a small gap has appeared between my right incisor and canine since starting my elastics. It'll get corrected, but they said it was because of the pull from the elastics. I've been in elastics for about 10 weeks now. A gap opened up in an awkward s...

Re: How much did you guys pay for your braces?

Wow, this is a great thread. I didn't get a second opinion because I love and trust my dentist who is growing an ortho practice on the side, and had thought she was a bit expensive but now I realize she is right I the ballpark! (she has certificates already and she herself had adult braces not so lo...

Re: can you brush your teeth too much?

I'm hearing a response to a few factors: Enamel: I don't think you can wear off your enamel just with brushing...it can be ground slowly but not if you aren't using an abrasive with a hard brush. You probably shouldn't be using hard brushes anyways...Like when you go get your twice annual cleaning -...

Re: Ladies: Do you wear lipstick?

:P still wear the dark and bright reds when I think I can be very careful of how I am carrying myself - i.e. able to check my teeth w/out being obvious and also if I know I won't be eating. it's already a pain to take the time to check while eating dinner and talking to people; i am learning to not ...

Re: eek braces on tuesday!

yes, make SURE to bring lip balm. if possible, if you have a break, reapply! balm will wear off, and if lips get dry, more likely to crack. i bring mine at each adjustment as i have a small mouth and they are stretching everything everytime!

Re: When does it get better?!

It probably depends on the treatment - everyone experiences it differently depending on what needs to be done on them! My first two months there was some poking and rubbing and getting used to it, but in my case, in the third month, my dentist has put stops on the back of my upper incisors s...

Re: Is it ok to brush with baking soda and peroxide w/ brace

I'm a newbie, but I'm sure periodic use couldn't be a problem - I guess it may depend on the type of braces. I can't do without it - I'm an inveterate tea drinker and I think tea is actually worse than coffee for staining teeth because the particles are smaller! Baking soda is abrasive; don't scrub ...

Re: Waterpik yes or no?

I just got braced less than a month ago, and right after that had to travel for a month in Hong Kong. I ordered the travel multivolt waterpik and it's great! because it's taking me so long to learn how to floss with the braces, i figure that it's better than not doing it when i don't have the time. ...
