Re: I'm new - researching for daughter with 11mm overbite
Depending on the appliances installed, it may prove impossible to keep thumb sucking, however the fixed habit breaker is one method if not.

Re: bad braces day
It's tough, and it's a bit of a lonely road at times. Forum is quite good for realising you're not alone, as friends can be a bit insensitive sometimes; it was easier aged 12 when its normal to have braces. I'm just at the end of my first week with essix type trays in following extractions (so fake ...

Re: Over the counter painkillers affect teeth movement?
Speaking as a chemist, absolutely no issue with taking painkillers on your teeth. Stick to the guidelines on the packet however as you can damage your organs and cause other health problems by taking excessive doses. If the pain is so bad you feel the need to be exceeding over the counter doses, you...

Re: What do you miss eating?
Not so much the individual foods, but just the ease of an apple or something on the move, without having to chop everything up first!

Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?
This time I'm 25. But it first started when I was nine (2 years of just removable appliances) then thirteen (2 and a bit years fixed braces) and then eighteen for 9 months. Not the best!

Colgate toothpaste as I did before. Listerine mouthwash, though the caution above definitely applies!

Re: Depression and coping with braces
It's reassuring to hear others struggle with confidence. I've found myself avoiding any situation where k need to speak to new people. Especially bars or parties. Having had braces as a teenager, I didn't think it would be so hard.

Re: Clarinet and braces problems
First time around (I had fixed upper and lower traditional braces) I was a fairly accomplished clarinet player and was advised by the ortho it wouldn't be a problem. However I found very quickly that I couldn't continue playing - main issue not being able to get my lips correctly in place. May be di...

Re: How did you tell people???
This is my concern too - I only have a few more weeks to decide how to manage whether I tell people - and my braces will be very visible.
