Can you have SARPE at the same time as double jaw surgery?
Hello everyone. My question is fairly self explanatory from the time. My orthodontist mentioned having minimal SARPE surgery at the same time as double jaw surgery. Minimal meaning approximately 2mm. When remembering what I had learned about the details of both surgeries though, I didn't quite under...

Midface Hypoplasia and Maxilla Advancement
Hello everyone! I haven't logged into the forum for a while. I hope everyone is doing well. I have a sunken-looking face. Nothing too bad, but from my profile you can really tell that the bottom of my eyes are sunken back, making me look tired constantly. My cheekbones are also not very prominent. T...

Re: My Orthodontry Thread -- Remedying Traditional Orthodntr
I'm about 3 years into my treatment which began with a lower mandibular repositioning splint that I wore for just over 2 years. I did develop a bit of an open bite with my molars, but that has had much to do with the fact that I'd ground them down quite a bit from bruxism when I was younger and had...

Re: My Orthodontry Thread -- Remedying Traditional Orthodntr
Does anyone know if mandibular advancement can cause somewhat of an open bite? I was thinking about it and since the jaw is angled downwards even if slightly, wouldn't a slight open bite be the result?

Re: Jaw Surgery Insurance?
So I don't think my teeth are tipped out. I think it is more of an optical illusion from how I took the picture. I looked myself in the mirror and they appear straight or close to it.

Re: Jaw Surgery Insurance?
Well, I'm no orthodontist, but it appears your teeth in your narrow upper are tilted outwards to match your lowers. If your palate is expanded, part of the treatment will be to rotate your teeth back downwards so they are vertical. Really? I thought they looked straight but I wouldn't know. So my p...

Re: Jaw Surgery Insurance?
I am having the same kind of surgery on Monday. It sounds like you might have a good chance of getting it approved. I have heard BCBS is one company that does approve it pretty often. I have Aetna and they did finally approve me. I would suggest being sure to find a surgeon who does a lot of this k...

Re: Jaw Surgery Insurance?
I'd meet with the orthodontist first; he's going to have a better idea of what needs to happen to your bite, and based on that, what he needs the oral surgeon to accomplish to meet your orthodontic goals. (He'll put it in the referral letter.) Most US orthodontists do not charge for the initial con...

Re: Jaw Surgery Insurance?
I'm just trying to find the best way to go about this. All the choices! Can you guys tell me what is the downside if I go with both the surgeon and orthodontist I like, but they haven't previously worked together? Is there that much contact between them that it would be critical for them to ...

Re: Jaw Surgery Insurance?
Unless your jaw is extremely underdeveloped (and it does not appear to be from your photos), a regular BSSO (which extends the bone all in one shot, is easier on you, and has a lower complication rate) would probably be sufficient. And your ortho should be able to tell you if he feels you should se...

Re: Jaw Surgery Insurance?
Hey sirwired: That is a very specific list! I'm nervous now. How do the orthodontist and OMFS work in conjunction here? I found a OFMS online that I like, but I doubt he has any affiliation with the orthodontist I like. Does that matter? Can I just suggest that OFMS to the orthodontist I like? Also...

Re: Jaw Surgery Insurance?
There is a very specific list of criteria that the insurance companies use to determine if jaw surgery is medically necessary. Really the OMFS your ortho refers you to would be the best person to answer this question. (The consult will be covered in any case, even if the surgery is decided not to b...

Jaw Surgery Insurance?
Hello everyone, I'm back. So I'm gathering more information on my dental case. First, I want to expand my arch, even if it is just moving my teeth, but then I'm interested in bi-maxillary surgery. So! The big thing I want covered here is the bi-maxillary advancement. My insurance is Blue Cross/Blue ...
