Re: what food/snack on the 'no, no' list do you crave, but dont dare try eat?
I really get a kick out of how dramatic people are about the no-no list. People seem to think if a popcorn kernel or a nut touches your tooth, the brackets will spontaneously explode, causing an unstoppable chain reaction tearing a rift in the time-space continuum, extinguishing mankind forever... H...

Anyone have expansion via lefort and NOT need TPA?
I'm going on week 8 of my recovery (2 segment lefort w screw fixation and bsso) and I just got my splint out today. I got all my arch wires replaced to get back on track. But I'm a little concerned because my ortho said I didn't need a TPA. As far as I've seen on this forum and elsewhere, people typ...

Re: May 2015 Surgery Buddies!!!
I'm kinda nervous about looking in the mirror and seeing someone different than the person I've been seeing my entire life... I'm very worried about this too! I originally had a date on April 22. That got pushed to May 1st and again to May 22. Let's see if it sticks. I'm in for Lefort I and BSSO as...

Re: Ceramic brackets: self-ligating or clear ligatures?
I've said this once, and I'll say it again: if you're going with traditional ceramic brackets, request SS wire ties. Clear ligatures stain immediately. The SS wire ties with ceramic brackets are great if you want subtle. It bothers me when people mention often someone at the ortho office makes excus...

Re: How much weight lost??
Thank you for this recipe! I'll definitely have to keep it in mind for when the surgery happens...! I just didn't know how to incorporate the carbs into something like a smoothie...Do you think rolled oats would also be ok, or would that make things a little too...thick? I think it should work. Jus...

Re: How much weight lost??
There's no way to incorporate carbs like that into the diet, eh... Says who? I eat a lot of calories (3000+) in an attempt to put on muscle. I'm a 155 lb male FYI. If you're looking for carbs my friend, you've come to the right place: sprouted buckwheat oats - sprouted oat groats are preferred beet...

Re: detailing appt?
Sounds similar to when I had an appointment and they called it "artistics". Like they did with me, perhaps detailing is where they are going to reposition brackets to make sure your teeth are completely level.

Re: MIGHT Get Surgery in July...
You can look up videos of both operations on YouTube. [.....] Watch one of those and you'll thank the deity of your choice for general anesthesia; it doesn't look too bad until the surgeon gets to the step in a LeFort I that requires a steel chisel and a mallet. I just watched two and I had to have...

Re: How many teeth have you "waxed" at once?
When I was younger and I had braces the first time I absolutely hated the sensation of the wax in my mouth the first time I tried it. Plus it was a pain and unsightly to remove. So I just let my cheeks toughen up and I haven't used it since and I don't intend to. Ha.

Re: Bottom teeth aren't level
Do not worry. I had the same problem and at about the 8 month mark my ortho did what she calls "artistics". Basically all she did was take a panoramic x-ray to look at the roots / teeth positions. Based on that x-ray, she then re-positioned a few brackets, including at least one of my fron...

Re: Shortening "long face" - what are the options?
Wow that's it eh? They're lining my teeth up before they decide if I only need double jaw or both it and SARPE. They said I need 5 mm expansion which is the limit for lefort. Seems like a more stable result would be achieved from doing both.
So how long total did it take for the gap to close?

Re: Shortening "long face" - what are the options?
You're probably right. A few mm can make a large difference. You've had SARPE already? How's it been so far? How much are they going to expand?
Sounds like you're pretty confident with your decision so that's good. I hope it turns out for you!

Honestly man, I think you look fine. Your front view looks absolutely fine and I can just barely tell about what you're saying about your profile now that you've mentioned it. But it's minor; I've seen a lot worse on these forums. If you're going after a major aesthetic result I fear you may be piss...

Here's another one for you. I'm at around 10 months in and I'm back down to the smallest wire due to them hooking up my rear molars which grew in at about a 45° angle. Notice the great mid lines  ... Hello surgery. If you're sharp, you can also notice where some of the bonding has begun to st...
