Re: Bicuspid extraction experiences
Hi Stargirlxx. Did you end up going through with the reversal? No, not yet. What I did was get a full refund from my orthodontist. I consulted with Dr Hang over the phone and he was confident he could help me just that it would be quite expensive and involve regular travel back and forth to Califor...

Re: Jaw Surgery - Pregnant
This is why I had to call off jaw surgery... Twice! You will have to stop breastfeeding for at least a few weeks so for that reason my surgeon did not want me to have the surgery until the baby was at least a year old. Now my youngest is 17 months old so I am considering surgery again.

Re: Regretting extractions, considering reversal
sirwired, that's what has upset me the most, I was told that the extractions would be a "quick fix" to get some of the benefits (but not all) that I wanted from the jaw surgery. To have gone through with the extractions against my better judgement, and to still be facing the same problems ...

Re: Surgery vs teeth extraction--overbite
I posted my deeply regretted bicuspid extraction story here: http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=44396 I am currently looking to undue the extraction, and find a local BC ortho who is qualified to expand and implant. The negative impact on my appearance, health and comfort has be...

Re: Opting for tooth extraction vs. jaw surgery
I posted my deeply regretted bicuspid extraction story here: http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=44396 The negative impact on my appearance, health and comfort has been pretty devastating. I can't speak for your circumstances, but I wish I had never extracted any healthy teeth, a...

My Braces Journey - Extraction Regret!
I am 23 years old and had my first set of braces at age 17. I am currently 23, and 2 years into my second set of braces. I am 6 months post-extraction of 2 upper bicuspids. I am including photos of my journey to date: Age 16, before braces or ANY orthodontic treatment. (I got braces a few months aft...

Re: Regretting extractions, considering reversal
I'm including images of my braces progression. Age 16, before braces or ANY orthodontic treatment. (I got braces a few months after this photo was taken) My concern was crowding. Braces and jaw surgery were recommended to align my face/bite better. http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/7847/69458763437...

Re: Bicuspid extraction experiences
I had my 2 upper bicuspids extracted 6 months ago to correct an overjet. I am so upset at the results, my appearance has deteriorated immensely, I have trouble breathing and chewing, and I'm experiencing tmj symptoms. I am devastated. I live in BC, Canada and cannot afford to fly to California for t...

Re: Undoing extraction orthodontics?
Yes, pulling from the upper can make the chin appear weaker. If the top teeth are retracted, your lower jaw will be postured back farther as well. This is what happened to me. My ortho had told me it wouldn't, since I had an overjet, but he did not account for the fact that in order to speak/breathe...

Re: Regretting extractions, considering reversal
Angryhead, have you already started the reversal process? What will your treatment entail? Mind is taking new records next week because I'm basically demanding he reverse what was done. I was not told about all the negative effects of extraction. All he told me was that I might lose a bit of upper l...

Re: Regretting extractions, considering reversal
Whoops. I hope others who are told they need extractions will really question that advice. The changes to my facial structure and comfort, and likely overall health in the future are devastating. Reading on other boards how many people have gone through this is quite infuriating and I hope by sharin...

Regretting extractions, considering reversal
I first got braces at 17 to prep for planned lower jaw surgery to correct asymmetry of my jaw. I had minor crowding on the top and bottom and had a front bottom tooth extracted as well as my two lower wisdom teeth. At age 19, I decided against the jaw surgery (felt it was unnecessary,) and had the b...
