Fixed and removable retainer- are both necessary?

I had my six month smile braces removed from my top teeth at the end of August (bottom due to come off next month!) and I have a fixed retainer plus wear a removable retainer at night. I have started to have issues with my top gums bleeding, especially when I take my removable retainer out in the mo...

Re: Midlines

Hi catlady, i have the exact same problem! Will be getting my top braces off tomorrow and still have another month or 2 to go on the bottom. The midline at the top is perfectly central but the bottom is about 3mm off, however my bite feels perfectly fine. Will be asking my dentist about this tomorro...

Re: And my six month smile journey begins...

My ortho changed my bands and my wires, was lovely to have clean non-stained ons on again! He also had to shave a bit more off some teeth to make more room. That was about it to be honest and it only took about 50 minutes.

Re: Banana

I LOVE BANANAS TOO! Though I have to cut them into little chunks or mash them up as I cant bite into them, takes the convenience out of them a bit! I am SICK of soup, I have it everyday for lunch at work due to the sheer convenience of it and the fact its the easiest thing to eat in front of people!...

Re: And my six month smile journey begins...

Had my first adjustment yesterday, cant believe the braces have been on for over a month already! The adjustment wasn't painful, it was just slightly uncomfortable what with the pressure the dentist was applying to my teeth whilst changing the wires and the bands. Plus my teeth are now more sensitiv...

Re: Did you tell work colleagues before getting braces?

I told my immediate team (about 6 people) and after their initial surprise they were all incredibly supportive, which made me feel alot more relaxed when i came in the next day with the braces on.

Re: Eating with my front teeth......Stupid question but....

Thanks for all your advice! I guess i will just have to build up my confidence with using my front teeth, just like i had to do with my back teeth in the first couple of weeks. Its certainly going to be an amazing feeling to get them off in 5 months (fingers crossed) time!

Re: And my six month smile journey begins...

24 days into life with braces! Cant believe how quick it has gone! Hoping the next 5 months fly by as well but at the same time I don't wan to wish the year away! I feel like I have got used to them now, sometimes I even forget they are there until I get an odd look from someone or I go to eat somet...

Eating with my front teeth......Stupid question but....

I've had my six month smile braces on for nearly 4 weeks now and while I am now used to eating/chewing with my back teeth I still am not using my front teeth. I attempted to eat a chicken wrap during the week and tearing off pieces with my front teeth proved difficult (I can only compare it to attem...

Re: Peppy's 6 Month Smiles story

Thats great your teeth are moving so quickly and you might be getting the bite guards removed! Iv got used to mine but they are still irritating so hopefully my dentist suggests this for me at some point soon too! Its also good to hear you're seeing more movement now compared to your first month. Im...

Re: Confess your dental hygiene sins

I thought of another habit which i had before braces whilst posting something at work today.....Tearing off sellotape with my teeth! Went to do it then realised it was probably a good idea to use scissors instead!

Re: Painful mouth ulcers.....help!!

In answer to my own question and if any others are wondering...... My ulcers have now cleared up, I'd say days 3-6 from getting braces were the absolute worse, salt water rinses, wax and 'medijel' gel helped the most. Now Im on day 11 and hardly any pain :) Obviously everyone is different though and...

Constant snacking! Now I have to think about what/how I eat! And you know what, I've realised I dont need or miss snacking and I've also lost a few pounds!

Re: And my six month smile journey begins...

11 days into life with braces.... Feeling 100 times better than I did this time last week, the ulcers have cleared up and the rubbing has subsided apart from a couple of brackets which I put wax on. Am also getting a lot more confident with eating which has been great what with all the food and choc...

Re: Painful mouth ulcers.....help!!

Thanks for the tips! The salt water rinses have helped a bit, the pain is slightly better today than the last 2 days so hoping they are slowly beginning to clear!
