Re: SARPE Surgery

Kat ~ I really enjoy reading your updates :) I notice that you post on alot of the threads & I think that's so great because I'm online a lot lately & love reading new posts on here. Glad that everything is moving along quickly for you! My update: I stopped expanding to my 7mm on March 12th,...

Clenching/Grinding a LOT - Mouth Guard with Expander/Braces?

Hi guys, I'm almost 3 weeks post op from my SARPE surgery, so I've got an expander in my mouth & I've also got complete upper and lower braces (so my 7mm gap can start closing). I used to clench & grind my teeth quite a bit BEFORE I got my braces on 2 months ago, but my clenching & grind...

Re: Surgery and contraceptive pill

I didn't feel great at all on day 2, but that still didn't stop my husband and I. Lol. I will say, be careful if you take antibiotics though because some can interfere with the pill.

Re: Question on drinks before Iv sedation

I had IV sedation for my SARPE surgery and was told not to eat or drink ANYTHING (not even water) for at least 8 hours before.

Re: Clear first 6 teeth top metal bottom - look odd?

I've got clear on top and metal on bottom and I think they look pretty good together. I prefer the clear (less noticeable).

Re: Surgery and contraceptive pill

I'm not sure if this will help you, but I had a SARPE surgery (surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion) 2 weeks ago and I also have an expander in my mouth which has made it difficult to eat/swallow, especially at first (I got it put in the day before my surgery). I'm on the pill and I managed t...

Re: SARPE - When Could You Smile Normally Again?

Great topic, I'm wondering this too! I'm currently at 2 weeks post op and my husband also makes me laugh and smile WAY too much right now. (He made me start smiling only a couple days post op and I was afraid my stitches would break). My smile feels very tight and I can't even rub my lips together l...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Goofylook - THANK YOU! Between you and Kat it now makes complete sense to me. I had looked online a lot and hadn't found anything that explained it as well as you both have described. I hope your posts come up in searches for people who are looking for info on SARPE vs. LeFort. :) Quick question for...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Kat - thanks! What a great explanation. I will assume then that I had a SARPE that was just cut like a Lefort :) I do know for sure that I had 3 cuts made (two on the sides and one in the middle). And also I'm using the expander, so I guess I didn't have a real LeFort since they didn't do the whole ...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Kat - I'm SO happy to hear the screw in your expander was just stuck! :) Hopefully your expanding is going along smoothly now. This is my 12th day post op and my upper lip and nose are still slightly puffy so I'm still feeling anxious for my nose to return to normal. Probably not many people could n...

Re: PRE & POST-OP SUPPLY LIST---add your list or ideas

It is now Sunday night and I had my SARPE surgery last week Tuesday morning, so this was day 6 of my recovery week. Last week I posted a list of everything I was getting together before the surgery, but I just wanted to pop back in and tell you what I ended up needing the most. I REALLY NEEDED a few...

Re: SARPE Surgery

This is the 5th day after my SARPE surgery. (Day 6 I guess if you count the surgery day too, since the surgery was Tuesday morning and now it's Sunday night). The surgery went really well, and my husband drove me home right afterwards even though it was a 6-hour drive (and the drive was fine since I...

Re: PRE & POST-OP SUPPLY LIST---add your list or ideas

I think this thread is EXTREMELY helpful. I'm 31, and my SARPE/LEFORT expansion surgery is less than a week away (Feb 26) and from what I've read, there is no way to expect how much bruising or swelling or pain I will be in, because everyone is different. In regards to the last post, I'm sure it is ...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie here and I'm having my SARPE surgery in exactly one week (Feb. 26). I'm 31 years old and really nervous about it. I have extremely crooked teeth and a SUPER crowded mouth because my upper palate is so much narrower than my lower. I'm not sure how to attach photos, but I'd l...
